Hi everyone, I'm new to Buell. I just bought a 99 X1 a couple weeks ago. It has a V&H's pipe and a carbon Buell race intake. It has the stock ecm and seems to run pretty well everywhere after i reset the TPS. The guy gave me a race ecm with the bike, but it runs like complete crap when I plug it in. It is hardly driveable, so I can't get the ecm to "learn". It idles fine, but the midrange pops and cracks like crazy? I would like to use the race ecm, being that I have it. Any ideas? I have ECMspy and the cord so I can always mess with my stock map if I can't get the race ecm to work. hansendo |

"The guy gave me a race ecm with the bike, but it runs like complete crap when I plug it in." The TPS needs to be reset after installing in the race ecm, then take it for a 10 minute ride in closed loop (3,000-4000 rpm) and everything should be fine. (Message edited by Jramsey on May 24, 2012) |

"The TPS needs to be reset after plugging it in, then take for a 10 minute ride in closed loop and everything will be fine." I did reset the TPS. Will it really run that terrible until you do the 10 min ride? I just stopped because I felt something wasn't right. |

Shouldn't run terrible, maybe someone messed with the maps and that's the reason the seller "gave you" the race ecm instead of it being already installed. Here's a pic of a Virgin ( unaltered race ecm.)

It looks just like that. I'll figure out how to pull the maps off of the ecm this weekend and take a look. |

I got the race ecm working, but it was a little rich. I was a getting a AFV of 85%. I did a little tinkering and pasted the lower left hand part of the stock map on the race file and now I have a AFV of 95% and the low end is pretty smooth. I did all of the tuning on the stock ecm and left the race one alone. The stock maps were pretty wacky. The front was more rich than the rear, which should be the other way aorund Does anyone have a stock map I could take a look at? |

"your intake and exh pipe is for race. You cant run stock with those parts." I understand that, I just wanted to see how how the maps on the ECM the bike came with compared to the stock maps. |

Kind of a side question, but what is the actual difference between a 'race' and a stock ecm? Does it have a faster processor, a map table with more resolution, or is it just a different tune? |

"Kind of a side question, but what is the actual difference between a 'race' and a stock ecm? Does it have a faster processor, a map table with more resolution, or is it just a different tune?" As far as I can tell, they are the same. The resolution is exactly the same. The race ecm was just what they sold with the race kit from Buell. It had to be marked "for race use only" for emissions reasons. |
