My Shorai battery arrived yesterday just in time for me to install it in my race bike before needing to load it into the hauler. Very impressed with the package so far. Box arrived, and looks just like what you would expect a motorcycle battery to be, in size etc.  Right up until you open the box, then you see what you are really getting.  A nice compact battery with a bunch of dual purpose foam padding! The padding helps protect the battery during shipment, and it is all adhesive backed so you can use it to line your stock battery tray to get a custom fit for the Shorai. I found that there was lots of extra padding, really, there is a ton of this stuff in there, going to be very handy to keep in the garage for other projects! I purchased the LFX18L1 which is the recommended battery for street use on the Buell. And weighs roughly 2.3lbs! This is a weight savings of 7.2lbs, according to Shorai, over the stock battery and I would say it feels all of that. Mine is going to be race use, but after talking with Shawn we decided to stick with the recommended street sized unit for ease of use and extra capacity. Shorai has a smaller and even lighter unit available for pure race use, but since I still run the stock fans and wanted ease of use as my main priority, we figured this was the best way to go. The smaller battery is 1.8lbs if my memory serves me correctly. Size comparison:  So, after adding a few pieces of padding, and changing where I had the positive cable routed, (probably wouldn't need re-routed, but was simple to do) I came up with this:  I put one of the large pads under the battery, a rectangle piece on the side, and cut two squares of the really thick pad and stacked them on the top of the battery. Fits nice and tight using the stock strap. Bike cranked and started with no hesitation at all. Fantastic upgrade! might just be me but from the looks of where you mounted it, it looks like it could short out on the subframe or when you try to take it in and out. maybe not just thought id throw that out there. If/when this one dies that i got ill be getting one! If you dont mind me askin what did it run ya? Thanks! Jake | ||

Jake- There is actually a lot of space between the battery and the subframe. Probably close to 2 inches. This would be fine in a street bike. Started the race bike all day with no issues, cranked good and fast. | ||

Since the bolts are small I used stainless fender washers (0.5") to tighten the bolt heads against the cable fittings on mine. One year later and works and looks great. I recommend lining the battery space with a piece of plastic wrap until you get the nut secured to the bolts in the event you drop them during installation they don't get lost. When you got the cables secure pull the plastic out. | ||

I actually thought the Shorai would be a good "fix" for the stator issue. Just carry two where ever you go.  |
