Author Message   Imaposer2 Posted on Sunday, May 13, 2012 - 04:36 pm:        Ok, so I've been out in the garage on this rainy Sunday admiring my new S1. Since this is my first Buell I'm just crawling around the floor looking at things and getting familiar with the design. I'll soon be doing a more thorough inspection of various parts and things, but I had to start somewhere. So, just now I was checking the air pressure and checking out the rear wheel/brake set-up, when I notice something that doesn't look kosher to me. As you can see from the pic my new S1 doesn't have the standard S1 swing arm, but also check out the way the caliper carrier is mounted and tell me what's wrong... This bolt (red arrow) is just resting on the top of the swing arm... Just looking at it, it appears as though when the PO had new rear tires installed, they didn't reinstall the carrier correctly. Shouldn't that bolt be in this slot (red arrow) on the back of the swing arm? Or is there something else that I'm not seeing? Sorry, but it appears the camera focused on the wheel, but you can still see the slot well enough to know what I mean.   Pash Posted on Sunday, May 13, 2012 - 04:53 pm:        Should be in the slot as you identified... Now I realize that I don't have a socket large enough for the axle nut. What size is it? Measuring I come up with 1.4in which is close to 35.56mm. Of course my local Sears is just one of the little ones that sells a few tools, appliances and lawn care stuff. My manual calls for between 66 and 73 ft-lbs. I split the difference and set my Snap-On torque wrench for 70 ft-lbs.   Essmjay Posted on Monday, May 14, 2012 - 11:40 am:        I made a mistake once and installed the rear caliper like that. By the time I caught it I had ruined a set of pads, so be sure to check the pads.
