Hello everybody, I am glad to be back as a Buell owner after a short break.

I ride an 09 Uly w/ 4500 miles. This bike was in storage for last 6-8 months by the previous owner. He had installed a new HD battery a few weeks ago. After work Tuesday, I rode around for an hour no problems. Fuel light came on as I was heading back to the barn, so I stopped for fuel. Went to turn the key, switched to run, pressed the starter: It clicked, gauges went crazy: first both stuck at high noon then both pegged at the right, Then darkness.

Subsequent electric start attempts showed no life whatsoever. I pushed that monster a mile to get home. Quite a work out - and the 'walk of shame'! A Hog rider stopped to offer assistance of fuel, but after discussion, he agreed it was hopefully just a fuse.

Later tonight, I will start at the fuse box and move along the signal path.

Does killing the motor with key-switch (rather than run switch) have detrimental effect?

Is it even possible to push start this behemoth?

First, check your battery voltage before doing anything else. If less than 12.5V or so, start by charging the battery. While that is going on, then check battery cable connections, fuses, ect.

If the battery voltage is down, and the bike starts after being charged, the charging system is suspect.

Might be as simple as loose battery terminals.

-Battery terminals tight
-Voltage verified after 12hrs unchanged at 12.7VDC
-ohm'd out all the fuses as all good.
-I followed instructions to test STARTER RELAY but am unclear these results.. metered to 00030. When I jostled teh fuse housing the instruments would briefly come to life...possibl the harness into the fuse housing is messed up?

Last year I was checking all the fuses and diodes on my 2000 X1 for corrosion.

When I went to start it, absolutely nothing happened. Turned out one of the pins on the connector to the back side of the fuse block had "unlocked" from the connector. That happened when I was tugging on the fuse block to get a little better look-see.

Easy fix---paper clip and pushed it back in till I heard it click into place.

30 ohms sounds reasonable for the coil part of the relay. All those relays are the same, so you can swap slots in the fuse box and see if anything changes. That would rule out the relays.

Has the engine been rotated down? Is the stranded stainless cable that runs parallel to the heim joint that connects the rear head to the frame in place? I forgot to do that one time, and got symptoms similar (but not quite the same) to yours.

I wouldn't rule out the battery just yet. Have you put a charge on it?

I say this because I recently had a battery showing 12.8A static charge but could not turn the starter due to a bad cel. Load test will confirm whether batt is POS or not

And the duh award goes to: the second time around moto-noob.. yep.

Today, at the suggestion of Bill(Bob?)@IRON HORSE in Fremont, I put my trickle charger on the battery. Only took two hours to get a solid GREEN L.E.D. Went to disconnect. As I touched Positive lead the bikes cluster-lights came and stayed on.. I tried the starter and got the engine fully running with no effort.

Red lead was not fully tightened..

You can say you 'tightened it' and convince yourself you did.. but it's ok to be thorough even on the obvious things.
