Guys, does anyone have any suggestions for insurance companies here in Florida? My renewal just came due and went up to 719.00 with Harley Davidson/American Southern Insurance. I have never had a ticket and I'm 30 years old, this is my reward for being a safe rider/driver? I spent 2 days calling around to find a cheaper rate but no luck. Hell, the next closest rate was 1100.00, what a rip off. This is the icing on the cake though, I have been paying for passenger liability for the past year only to just find out that in the state of Florida it doesn't include your spouse or anyone else in my household. Talk about stupid, who else am I going to ride except my wife? Anyway, I've got till Wed to renew. Any suggestions? Ken |

Hey Blasterd, I *just* went through the same process (literally two days ago), and decided to stick with American Southern. They were the only company that would cover me for less than $1000. FL is the shits when it comes to bike insurance. =/ I think it may have something to do with our 12 month riding season, but that's just a guess. -Geof edited by geofg on January 04, 2004 |

Ken - Give GMAC a call at 800-847-2886 x6127. This is the "Rider Plan" thats promo'd by Rider magazine. I went with them when I bought my '00 M2 and their rate was about $540/year for me in CA. I'm now with Allstate ($450/year), but they quit writing new M/C policies about two weeks after I signed on with them in 2001. Also look at Progressive (www.progressive.com) as they came in at about $600 for me. Do call as many insurers as you can because I also got quotes of $2611 from Geico and $1928 from Bikeline. Like they always say about insurance, "It pays to shop around". Good luck. Glenn |

Ebear the Amazon's name was Kanani. We were bird sitting her for a friend and almost ended up with her fulltime. My daughter was major bummed when Kanani went back home...then again so was Kanani cause she kept calling my Daughter's name for about 2 months after she went back home. How soon do the bikes need to be at each location? I am asking because LA is 5 hours away from me right now and well Jesery is about 2 hours from where I may be in a week...It looks like I may have to make a drive to Delaware later this week then drive back here to Phoenix...I will know more in a day ro two. Something might be able to get worked out since I have a full size truck. |

We (the IT department where I work) just got called into a surprise meeting. They brought a box of facial tissues. One of the guys who always talked about getting a Busa (he was a BIG boy) got killed on a bike last night. Details unknown. I was telling Loli how the dart sometimes lands awful close to your square. His office is right next door to mine. Paul could best be physically likened to the guy who played the big black prisoner in the Green Mile. Big boy. Big voice. Big heart. Big smile. He liked fast cars, fast bikes, & dare I say fast women. Days like this make me hope that I'm wrong about our puny little place in the universe - and that Paul is actually someplace where he knows how much he'll be missed. -Saro |

Be extremely careful when dealing with GMAC. The company that underwrites them does not know motorcycles from the whole in their asses. E.G. They would not even insure a 1998 Trophy 1200 because of its displacement and that it was NOT a cruiser. They also would not insure any Kaw with a letter 'Z' in it (zg1000....concours anyone?) and told me that the Honda ST1100 was an off road only machine....thus they would not insure that either. |

Try Fernet, they are a insurance broker and should be able to shop around for you for the best price. My Buell was insured thru Progressive and cost me $325.00 per year when new. 800-391-8144 They are in Orlando. |

I second the Fernet company. I went through them and ended up with Dairyland. The lowest quote I got from anyone else was $3200 for full coverage of an XB12R and Dairyland through Fernet came in at just over $800. On my first statement they dropped my to just under $800... |

Bummer Saro, You are right though, we never know when our number is up. Funny thing is, when it *is* up, it doesn't matter what you're doing or where you are. With that in mind, I say don't let it cause you to stop living life to the fullest. Somehow I get the feeling from your description of Paul that he would agree. On the XL list someone used to always end their posts with the sig line "I refuse to tiptoe through life, only to arrive safely at my grave". I still like that. Timbo |

Saro, Very sorry to hear about your friend Paul. There's a difference between just being alive and living, and it sounds like he knew that difference. My condolences to you and yours, and sorry if I'm sounding sappy, but I stopped by the local watering hole tonight with some friends, and was watching the news when the story broke that Tug McGraw, a reliever for the Phillies and Mets, had finally lost his battle with brain cancer. I sat at the bar, toasted Tugger, and cried. I still feel like a skinny cowlicked ten year old when I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch Tug trot in from the bullpen, thumping his glove on his leg in perpetual nervous tick, hair flying out of the back of his cap as he coaxed one last screwball from his tired left arm to strike out Willie Wilson. Not a single kid complained about missing recess when we got to watch the parade on tv, screaming "We Believe" over and over. And not a single principal or teacher batted an eye at the notes from parents that read "Little Suzy was attending the Phillies World Series Parade and couldn't make school." Because of Tug. He never forgot that baseball is a game. That it's supposed to be fun. And if you're not having fun then what the hell are you doing it for? Funny life's like that. It's fun, man. It's fun. And it's over too soon no matter how long you live it. Godspeed, Tugger. St. Peter's gettin' a hotfoot tonight. ------ reporter:"do you prefer to pitch on turf or on grass?" Tug: "I don't know - I've never smoked turf." |

JProvo- Yeh, I sold my non-street XR400 & traded the DR200 for the DR650. It doesn't have much more poop than the 400 but I can ride it on the street. I don't get to ride in the dirt much since Drew sold his CR125. It's fun to put the ice screws in and ride the river & trails during the winter. Drew & I came real close to coming out there to visit a school. It looks like he's going to stay close to home his first year. He really enjoyed talking to you about colleges & stuff. |

Yep, looks nice. If I keep the S2 it would be nice to trade out the rustable rattler for something with equivalent or better stopability. |

Neat setup, Jim! I've been wondering whether the fork, peremeter brake, and wheel from the XBs could be made to fit on a tube frame bike - and whether it'd be worth the trouble. Anybody have any thoughts on that? The lower unsprung weight on the front would be a big advantage, wouldn't it? |
