After having some routine service performed on my 08 XB12 I noticed a distinct change in the fan operation pattern. It now runs when it hardly ever did and does not run when it almost always did. The service tech told me that this is due to an ECM patch that he installed because my old version was out of date. The fan does not run when the bike is in neutral or first or below 2000rpm or when the key is switched off. It does run when in second or higher even when I'm going 40mph into the wind on a 60 degF day. The objective was apparently to take a load off the battery. This seems to me to negate the value of the fan? The bike does run smoother, quieter and crisper. Any thoughts? |

Yes you now have what we call the 2010 fan operation, it makes the fan come on less when it is noticeable, and more when it would be harder to notice. Typically you won't hear it till you hit 15 MPH, and it will almost never run after the key is turned off. |

I noticed this as well when my bike's firmware was upgraded from BUEZD to BUE2D. I've put a enough miles on it like this that I'm not concerned about it. I did add the right side air scoop for the rear cylinder, but I also live in a hot climate. |
