If your check engine light (CEL) comes on it could be your exhaust valve actuator. |

Could be the horn hitting the wind screen up front. Could be the V-Lump under the breather. |

Are you sure it's from under the airbox and not from the gauge cluster area? |

Im not 100% certain where its coming from....possible could be the gauge cluster... when im driving it sounds like my zipper would be banging on the tank but its def not that since my jacket/pants is not touching the tank. Ill have to dig deeper but I can inspect the gauge area and under the "tank" area. There r no warning lights flashing. thanks! |

Change your oil. Look for more brass filings. Oil pump gear made a similar noise as it was breaking up which is why mine is in pieces waiting for parts. |

I thought the improved bronze gear wasn't supposed to explode like the old steel gear??? |

The bronze will go ,apparently, but in my case it was the original '03 that finally went. Nice thing was it took out the pump first before any chunks went anywhere and enough oil pressure remained to get me home. Bad thing was it broke but the noise was bizarre and sounded more like what is described here than I would have thought. |

Under what conditions is the rattle most noticeable? |

there are some cable connectors zip-tied together behind the flyscreen on my uly (and I assume the non-'bolt XBs as well) that can come loose and rattle around, as well as the horn. there are also some cables under the airbox, but I think they are secured a little better. |
