First off, I'm mot sure that there is "a problem". It's racing. Sometimes weird shit just happens. However, life cycle is certainly a suspect in these cases, but I don't think so here. The failure was EXACTLY the same as Daytona and all those components and many others were replaced. I think there is something about this particular motor as a system, that is causing very low probability convergent events, to be much higher. If the cause was simple, it would have been identified and fixed. Every motor, no matter how tight the tolerances, has its own unique characteristics of vibration, resonance, heat distribution, etc. To address that, the entire motor is being swapped. Thank you EBR. I also want to reiterate that we were able to beat Aussie Dave on the GSXR 1000 that he is currently racing in AMA, with this motor in stock tune. Believe me when I say that we were on the rev limiter constantly (just listen to the video) and had 0 problems. So if you are thinking about the 1190RS or some future variant as a street bike, you will, given your skill level, reliably smoke everything currently out there. If you decide to remove the extra base gaskets for more compression, you will still have at least .010" more clearance than the full race builds. If anyone is serious about bying one of these (I mean really serious, like put down a deposit) and you have the appropriate track experiance, come to CA and you can take some laps on mine. Hold on! thanks for the update Rob. I hope that EBR is able to learn something when the failed engine is dissected. |

OK - I guess it's now time to ask if you're needing experienced pit slaves at Sears Point. |
