Working out a deal now. Needs a little work, was repainted wrong colors so will eventually have to be repainted/powdercoated. Any tips on things to look for particular to this bike? I know how to buy a used bike in general, just wondering if there were any oddities to look for with an S2? |

That is great! I would check the front and rear isolators, rocker box gaskets for leaks, primary chain adjustment, belt tension, brake pads. But those are all just maintenance items, not oddities. If you see oil leaking at the base gaskets you will eventually be doing a top end job, opportunity for some modifications for more horsepower. Shane |

S2 specific stuff is: Look for stress cracks in the bodywork Look for a vertical tie-bar behind (in front of?) the gauges - between the gauges and headlight. I'm pretty sure that's where it is. It's a reinforcement to help avoid those stress cracks up front. Look at the welds where the handlebars are welded to the "collars" that hold them onto the forks; I've heard tales (they were on the internet so they must be true) of those welds stress-cracking from somethingorother... Don't ever start it and idle it on the sidestand, or you'll be picking it up off the ground. Embarrassing if you own it; downright rude if you're looking at it in the seller's driveway! Bodywork can be fixed; green carbon fiber air filter is stock and pretty much unobtanium. Early bikes had greenie rear tire huggers; late bikes had black coated huggers. AFAIK all S2's had greenie lower belt guards. Other square-swingarm bits will fit, but if you're concerned with "originality" keep an eye out for these parts. Ask about the Signature Series items - timing cover with display case, laminated "playing card" with specs, and letter from Erik. PM wheels were optional. Cast wheels will NOT have "Buell" cast in them; they will have a lower-case "m" for Marchesini. "Buell" / Castalloy wheels are functionally and visually identical...but not "original". As noted above, everything else is "used bike / old tuber" stuff to look at. Good luck, you're gonna love it! |

Where's the S2 located? If it's near MD, swing by here on your way home and we can go through it (either quick, or in-depth) if you want |

OK, I made it back in one piece, guess I'm now a part of this exclusive club! She's ratty and needs lots of lovin', but give me some time and I'll make her a respectable woman again! Got a zillion questions, I guess the first thing I need to do is round up parts and service manuals, I'm curious to see which things cross-reference HD parts, I've got a few things on her, not sure if they're supposed to be there?? |

Nice. gray frame and wheels - '96? Looks like stock shifter, stock sidestand, stock body, stock seat. Gray sideplates tell me...S2T. Bags? Can't tell - is there a rear hugger? Ride it yet? Thoughts? |

Yes, it's an S2T and no, the bags are long gone along with any documentation and carbon fiber But, I did ride her and she runs out well! She's going to need a lot of cosmetics, but at least I have a starting point! Will be scouring the archives for info and looking everywhere for parts, I'm looking forward to cleaning her up and getting her on the road |

I just bought a S2 that was roughed up a little but everything I do to bring it back makes it better and better. I loved it when I bought it and love it more with every fix I do to it. I have had several different brands and types of bikes but this one is the most fun day tripper and around town bike there is - until I win the lottery and can get Erik Buell's new bike he just came out with. |
