I have an 08 XT that I bought used 2 years ago with 8,800 miles on it. I now have 13,000 miles on it. Completely stock. When the engine is cold regardless of outside temperature I sometimes get a cough and stutter when I got to take out from a complete stop. It is worse if I sit idle at a stop light. Blipping the throttle once before i take off seems to help but not always. Suggestions? |

I have a 08XT also and mine has done that since new Now I have 30 thousand ish ,Miles on her. And all I can say is less throttle the better and smooth on the start then she runs GREAT! High octain fuel are additives is what she likes best! Also I like to keep her up in the higher rev's Lower gear ! Burn up that fuel & keep her HOT. Don't drive over the speed limit they will gladly Take your money !!! I hate flashing lights! |

Yeah mine is cold-blooded too. I have recently decided to take my X1 on shorter trips since it seems to warm up faster. |

I have an '08XP. It will cough just off idle when cold. The condition goes away after 2-3 minutes of riding. Seems fairly normal to me... Chris C |

What you are describing could be one of several things. On mine it was an intake seal leak. Once warm it would seal but when cold it would do just as you describe. It took a few sets of seals to finally get a set to seal at all times. No problems since! Also the Uly hates ethenol and that's all we have here. I went to Homecoming last year and found some pure fuel at a Mobil station and the bike ran so much better up in Wisconsin and as soon as I filled up in Illinois it was back to pinging and harder starting and much less fuel mileage. (49.5 to 43!)If it runs fine after a couple of minutes I wouldn't mess with it. If it gets worse then check you intake seals with brake cleaner, WD 40 etc. Keep the air cleaner on and take the scoops off and spray from the bottom. Don't want to get a false reading. |

I'm, also, a new uly guy. Cold/off idle stutter seems to be common/normal(?). A full warm up, before riding, is a good idea. Also, search on (breather relocate), I'm not sure of the best search words, but it it looks like an easy, cheap modification that might help with better off idle running. I haven't done this yet, so I don't have 1st hand experience. |
