I recently installed the HSR 42 Mikuni carb with a force winder intake, exhaust is stock headers with a D&D muffler elivation is around 1500ft temp is 60 degrees + Its running lean with the stock jets that come with the carb witch I believe is a 160 Main 25 Pilot. This seems to be a popular upgrade with carbs what are people running for jet sizes. Any information is greatly appreciated. |

The stock CV carb is great at adjusting for elevation and should be good up until about 120 rwhp. I don't know about HSR. |

stock hsr-42 ez kit. the primary is a bit big, 1.5 turns out rather than ideal 2.5, other than that no complaints. |

stock intake aftermarket air cleaner not the best using wire screen for filter. D&D muffler no packing. sea level up to 6,000 feet (Oregon) |

Why did you switch in the first place? Was there a particular problem you're trying to fix? I've never had an issue with a properly set-up CV40...so I wonder what the driving force was behind changing it out. |

On my HSR 42, at 100 ft, I was running a 30 pilot. If you go to the Mikuni website, or if you have the manual that came with the carb, there is an excellent tutorial on jetting it right. I put my 42 on my 660 single MZ, and it still ran best with the 30 pilot. The key to jetting is being able to tell if it is rich or lean at all throttle levels. Of course once you get it right, you never mess with it again, so after a period of time based on how old you are, you forget it. |

I put the same carb on mine had a friend dyno tune it 79 bucks for 3 swipes not sure on thejet sizes but it runs like a son of a gun. Breathes a lot better than cv. I'm at 5k feet (iowa). But the dyno tune made all the difference . I am bored .020 and have the t sztorm heads and s trapp exhaust gettin 90 plus hp. Id never go back to the stock carb. |
