With all the great advice about technical issues given out on this forum, one might think that older Buells are prone to problems and I don't think we hear enough about just how great they really are, about how much fun it is to simply ride one. I ride my 2011 Triumph Speed Triple more than my Buell and then whenever I swap off for the Buell S1 I get hit again with what a great bike the Buell is...particularly when you get used to a higher revving bike, its a real surprise to do 100 mph so easily at a slow revving 5000 rpm....And easily cruise over the legal highway limit at a mere 3500 rpm!!! After riding the Buell for a few days, the Triumph seems like a real buzz box, like its trying to hard...There should be a thread on here where people simply praise this great (and reliable) Buell machine. | ||

Couldn't agree more. I like how the power comes in very smoothly and predictably. I like how I can occasionally forget to knock it down to first, start going in second, and the bike just pulls the gear. It doesn't give a damn. I went around a long swooping corner today in 3rd when I should have been in 2nd and came out of it with plenty of pull. Very forgiving. Certainly not the fastest bike out there, but I've only taken it above 100mph MAYBE 4 times since buying it. Who needs to go faster than that? A buell is simply FUN. Even at 30mph I can have fun with my X1. | ||

Ditto, guys at work are always bragging about being able to do 150 on their honda, BMW, etc etc..... But on the weekend rides, nothing slingshots out of a corner like the X1, while they're downshifting, I'm gone. These bikes love the winding mountain roads, now if you like to go straight for only a 1/4 mile, buy something else like a V-Max. | ||

Yah, my old v-twin would run about 6200 rpm at 70-75 the highway, I didn't enjoy that near as much. Now its a mellow trip down highway 4 (my commute) mostly just under 3500 rpm, just above loaf speed for the engine. | ||

I think you guys have lustful eyes, haha. If I try to start off in second, my S3 pings and throbs like crazy. If I'm in third pulling out of a turn instead of 2nd, it about shakes me off the seat! I found the 1050 Triumph I rode a few weeks ago much more forgiving at lower rpms than my Buell... but damn if the Buell doesn't tickle all the right places! | ||

I love the way my X1 puts power to the ground. And at 140mph, I wouldn't call it slow. But the best motor I ever had on two wheels was in my 86 GSXR1100. All the torque and loads of horsepower as well. | ||

86 GSXR1100: I have a similar motor in my 2002 Bandit 1200 and it is a real strong street bike. But I wish it handled like my Buells. All in all, my Buells are more satisfying bikes. They offer great handling and lots of torque too. It's hard to fault a big V-twin. | ||

I'm being 100% serious about starting in second. It was slower, sure, but it didn't stall, stutter, or ping. | ||

I agree Dave. The 86 GSXR was a foul handling beast. I never felt confident on that bike. But damn was that motor awesome! I love Bandits. Beautiful bikes. A big bore Bandit, ZRX1100/1200, and other similar machines were what I was looking for when chose my 99 X1. And I couldn't be happier. My X1, on so many levels, is simply the best bike I ever owned. | ||

swapping between the S1 and the 1125 quite often as the weather has improved. The S1 is such a relaxed machine, perfect for the city. A bit buzzy at 70. The CR wants to be ripping around the countryside, it barely tolerates the city. |
