I am installing a new tail light that has integrated turn signals. The turn signals move sequentially but reset to early and not all light will light up. The company told me I need a turn signal relay to fix the problem. They asked if it is a 2 pin or 3 pin relay. I have no idea where it is or even if there is one on my 1999 M2 Cyclone. Can anyone help me? | ||

i have a 3 pin on my x1. on my bike it is under the seat with all the other electronics | ||

It looks like there are 2 under the seat. Would you happen to know which on is the turn signal relay switch? | ||

I bought the flasher but I have no idea where to put it. Under the tail section on my bike looks way different than yours. I may have to do a little more research. Thanks for your help so far. | ||

Your 99/00 M2 Cyclone Turn signal flasher (From 99' parts book #68729-99Y , From 2000 parts book #Y0621.M ) should be bolted by a single screw to the right upper frame tube slightly forward of where the back of the fuel tank is secured to the frame. It will be hidden under the tail section and behind the right leg heat shield. (Message edited by jim2 on April 13, 2012) | ||

I'm new to these, so I'm guessing the turn signal relay is actually a relay with a timing circuit inside ( like the Bosch units that end up in BMWs, Volvos, etc ). A little digging and you'll find out there could be a timing capacitor inside. Change to a bigger capacitor means longer charge time, and slower flash rate. A few years back I built a '67 cougar taillight flasher from scratch for a 1960 Custom Chevy that had ten taillights 8^|, had to to the same thing to make it work. | ||

or you can get a time-based relay instead of a resistance-based one. Upside? LED's don't give you spazz-flash. Downside? Dead bulb doesn't give you the spazz-flash warning. | ||

I have the one that is advertised on ebay for about 69.00 on both my x1 and my s1. they work great..though I learned the hard way that if the battery is low they wont trigger....imagine the wire trouble shooting I did for that one... The ones the company is selling on ebay are a good quality and I have had no issues with them at all, in fact my moto guzzi 1100 sport uses the same light so I put one on that bike as well, so thats three for me, then we wired one each on my buds x1 and s1, so thats 5 total, no replacement relays required. though have had to make sure battery voltage was good on each one of them...in the process of wiring them up and testing as we went...it pulled the voltage down just enough to keep from triggering the flashers. once installed I have had zero problems with battery voltage..it was just the on and off on and off on and off that drug the battery down... test as you go, but keep the battery up. if you cant find them under buell, look at the lights for a Ducati monster...same exact light.. | ||

When wiring your LED, it is important to observe polarity. If it doesn't work,swap the wires around and try again. |
