Has anyone had a problem with the clutch basket itself going bad? I am chasing a mysterious rattling noise/feel that worsened to the point i feared for Uly's life.I've eliminated primary sprocket nut loosening and clutch/basket needle bearings as well as disassembled cam cover and oil pump looking for this noise. I've listened with stethoscope and the noise is very hard to pin down to a specific spot. After checking both sides of motor and seeing no obvious issue I have resorted to comparing components for differences that may not be easily seen. One thing different is the compensating springs for the clutch basket. Mine were quite loose and rattled badly when shaken and the comparison basket wasn't and didn't. I am going to change basket anyway but would appreciate input from those with more familiarity to these bikes. I do my own work but this is my first Buell and it is a unique creature. FYI Bike is an 07 Uly with 18000 miles of aggressive riding in the twisties around my home,(Angeles crest,Big Bear etc... |

The crank nut is the one that gets loose, and has the updated torque spec, not the clutch nut, but I am assuming that's what you mean. 30k miles on an M2 and 30k miles on an XB9SX, and neither had a hint of clutch trouble... didn't even replace clutch pads. |

I had a bad rattle in my uly primary. It was rusty needle bearings on the clutch basket. |

I have the same fault with my 2006 xb12,a noise in the primary cover area at low speed.Removed the clutch and basket and found the basket springs to be rattling around.2 springs were 1/4" shorter than the ones that were a firm fit and two were 1/8" shorter. My question to Mr Hyde is did changing the basket cure the rattling problem.Everything else looks fine so can only conclude this may be my problem. |

I am reviving an old thread here. Does anyone have any knowledge of this problem. I have a knocking noise from the primary and thought it was the flywheel nut. Everything was tight, however, but the clutch basket has two springs that are shorter than the others and when I shake it, it makes all kind of noise. The Harley dealer here in San Antonio said they had never seen one like it and are going to try and get me a replacement. Bike only has 7,000 miles, 08 xb12xt. Kiwibuellrider, Mr Hyde, any solution? Thanks |
