I know it's been done but haven't been able to find a good "how to" yet. I have the XB cooler and 2001 M2(bought it new). Thanks for any help! |

There were no THERMOSTATS put on the XB's because the engine's are SHROUDED by the FRAME and run much hotter that the TUBE FRAMES and another reason they all come with a COOLING FANs !!! |

"There were no THERMOSTATS put on the XB's because the engine's are SHROUDED by the FRAME and run much hotter that the TUBE FRAMES and another reason they all come with a COOLING FANs !!!" They are also air/oil cooled engines. The tuber engines are not. They don't put as much heat in the oil as they don't have piston oil jets. You really should install a thermostat, or a least a manual bypass valve so you can shut it off in cooler weather. |

hey Hootowl, I never knew about the XB mills' oiling being THAT different from my M2's - thx gents, here's a separate, MotoGP-related Q: does an XB engine rotate "backwards"? I seem to remember the cams rotate differently than a Sporty's.... |

You can easily tune/make a TWO STROKE engine run backwards, but not a 4 stroke ... Is that why the XB's have more COOLING FINS on the HEADS and CYLINDERS "PLUS" PISTON OIL JETS, OIL COOLER, and a FAN because they run just a LITTLE bit HOTTER ??? The XB and XR1200X engines are EVO EVO engines ... The XB engine on their last production run and the XR1200X engines are developments from the BUELL XBRR engine design ... |

I ran an oil cooler on my Shovelhead for four years and when it got cold would put a cover on the cooler to stop air flow.I never had a thermostat. |

Do the cams all turn clock wise or counter clock wise ??? Does the flywheels spin clock wise(forward) or counter clock wise(reverse) ??? |

Thanks everyone! I'll have to look ito the bypass, it could be a good idea. The cooler I have has the original XB lines, can I just plug and play? Where do the lines attatch to the motor? Also where can I find an adaptor to mount it? |

You will have to IMPROVISE(make)your brackets for mounting ... Pittbuell_ma: Will put some PICTURES together for you "ASAP" for an easier understanding ... |

Thanks for those pictures! They're going to be very helpful getting this little mod done and I appreciate it and also the carb 101 is also a good read! I've tuned it myself before but have always thought I could do a better job of it and I definitely will with your help. |
