Drummer has my muffler and my race ECM & K&N air filter have already shipped! Argh!

Can't wait to get the Uly DIALED!

Right now my M2 runs better, but it's been properly sorted.

I'll post up my results with the combo, but I expect a smoother, more responsive bike, with a louder, yet mellow exhaust tone!

I know, I know, I'm behaving like a little kid- so what???

I'll be interested to hear what you think since my 08 xt is bone stock. I'd be excited too if I were you. Keep us posted!

My 06 runs better now with the EBR computer / stock muffler combo than it ever did with a race ECM / Drummer.

And, my ears don't ring after a day-long ride.

YMMV, but I guess I'm getting old(er)....regardless, you will enjoy the upgrades.

Sooo... can is back from Drummer- looks AWESOME!

That and a few other mods will happen this weekend:

-New Drummer Pipe (re-worked stock pipe)
-New EBR Race ECM
-New Free Spirits Belt tensioner (hopefully will lead to longer belt & bearing life, AND looks cool!)
-New F&R Brake Pads
-New Mirrors (old mirrors sucked)
-New Iridium-tipped plugs

Ahhh, can't wait to get all this done!

Oh, and yes, I bought new muffler clamps, as I have read about failures on re-using the old ones.

Cheers!

Have fun. Mine is pretty similar and I love the combination. I finally got my gently used Drummer SS (from a fellow BadWebber) put on a few weeks ago, then the re-flashed E.B.R. Race ECM. I already had on the shiny springy thingy & Tuono mirrors. Now I just need to give her a bath. I think I'll still look for a decent SS spring for the FS tensioner at some point as I'm not crazy about the yellow one, but it's not that noticeable.

Ok,

Got my Drummer on, with the Race ECM. Slightly relocated the ECM to get it at a lower spot under the seat. Did the TPS reset and let it idle for 10min, so the Air/Fuel map could adjust to the new hardware.

Thoughts-

Louder (duh), but louder than I thought it would be. My 1999 M2 is louder with the V&H SS2R, but that's a perfect combo of louder, without being obnoxious. The Drummer may be just on the other side of too loud. My neighbor like it though! (he has 2 Harleys....) Might try a quiet insert.

Race ECM- definitely better throttle response and feels MUCH better down low and through the mid-range. Feels smoother and more like my M2, which is properly jetted. Very happy with that. Also, the fan runs while the motor is running (not at all times), but doesn't run when I take the key out and shut the motor down. I do like that.

Initially, I am very pleased with the Drummer/Race ECM combo. We are in a rainy period, so miles on the bike will have to wait. I'll post up later on my thoughts, when I have a few, hundred miles on the combo. May even get a video of the bike running, so you can judge the sound.

Cheers!

where have you located the nuts and bolts of the straps for the exhaust? and the top as when it was stock?

I rotated and turned around mine to the left side of the bike ( looking it from the back) for easier access when i do need to change the exhaust. Also I upgraded to the straps that come with the D&D (you can purchased them alone)they are much more tough than the stock ones.

Pontlee-

I mounted the straps, front and rear, the same orientation as stock- nuts on the right side. I found that if I rotate the tensioner, I can get to the clamp nuts, with a long extension & don't need to remove the tensioner.

The new combo sure runs smooth. We got a break from the rain, and I took the bike into work today. A little cool outside, but the Uly ran perfect.

Looks great!!
Would recommend carefully removing the "Warning Sticker" off the right side of your swing arm too.

Do we really need mufflers? I mean, hogs run straight pipes. How important is back pressure from the muffler?

So what if I like warning stickers?

Honestly, I left them on, as it keeps the bike looking, 'new.'

I'll bust out the heat gun.... geeze you guys are tough.

Geeps!!!! I love the pipe but could live w/just a little more noise. I loved the way my White Bros E-Series pipe sounds on my Dyna and don't really care for the sound of straight pipes. I'm childish enough to want a little more bark from the Drummer I have... but not quite childish enough to desire the typical "drag pipes" (geez, I'm old!) sound.

Hey Mhevezi,

I think, over time, you will find that your Drummer is way too loud.

Being the nice guy that I am, I will trade you straight up, my stock ceramic coated muffler,
for your way too loud Drummer, just to help you out.

BTW, with the Drummer tune, you can run a stock pipe wired open, and it will run great, and sound just about right. That's what I run.

John

If memory serves, I think Kevin told me that the core wrap option beefs up the pipes voice a bit, but I've also had a few beers so I could be remembering that wrong. I had him do that with mine both for longevity & sound. I'm loving mine but it is a little different than I expected. At idle I think it is quieter than my Hawk (which had a great sound) but it seems like the Drummer gets bolder as RPMs go up. No matter what, I like it. It runs good, it sounds good, and it looks fantastic. I'll probably wear ear plugs or an in-ear headset on the next trip, but then again I always did that anyway.

WOW, thanks guys!

So nice of you to help out. Honestly the sound is beefier, but I like it. May get tired of it in time, but for now- it fits.

Thanks John- ask me the same question in 5 years.

I owe you guys a sound clip....

Mhevezi-

Are you going to try the quiet insert? I would love to hear about it if you do. How it effects noise, power, etc...

Portero,

Yes, I just ordered the DB killer from Kevin. Gonna try that for day-to-day use.

Guess I'm a little older than I thought.

A soon as I have it and can try it, I'll post up!

Looking forward to it. Always been a fan of Drummers, not so crazy about loud pipes.

OK, got the DB killer this week. I owe you guys a sound clip with just the pipe & one with the insert. The insert is well made, but requires a hole be drilled in the exhaust outlet to hold it.

It works very well & the bike feels just as powerful, but is much easier on the ears. Overall, I am happy with my Drummer setup. More pics & vid clips on the way.

Had an opportunity to ride a buddy's bike(09, Drummer SS w/ quiet insert, EBR ECM) last week, and came away quite content with my setup(stock can w/ EBR ECM and 9 primary). The Drummer, even with the insert, was borderline too loud on my ears. It was stronger at low RPMs, but also had a flat spot over 5k, surely due to the insert. I rode an SS a few years back w/o the insert and was quite impressed with the performance. The Drummer kit is all very high quality, and a fantastic can w/o the insert, I am just too averse to the increased noise. Mystery solved, at least for me.

Yeah, the craftsmanship and service from Kevin is top-notch, no doubt, but the pipe was just too loud for me, as-is. The DB killer adds a lot of back pressure, which does great a low RPMs, but seems to cut it back at higher. The bike pulls for days, and smoothly from 2k up with the pipe open. Well, "Days" on a Ulysses = 7k rpms...

I rode the bike into work this morning and it did fine. The pipe looks great, it does sound better than stock, and it makes me want to ride the bike more!

Update to my Drummer experience.

I guess with the "Core Wrap" option, there is no need to re-pack the muffler and no way to do it, without cutting the pipe open, so that is nice to know the pipe will not need re-packing.

Since, I found this pipe to be a little too loud for me, I ordered & installed the dB Killer- yes, it does reduce the overall HP and adds a different sound that I really didn't care for. I was torn, as the Drummer by itself was too loud and with the insert, it was too quiet.

So I reached out to Kevin at Drummer and he advised I drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the dB Killer and I did just that - BINGO! This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Louder than stock, without being too loud for long freeway rides and it doesn't piss off the neighbors like before. They still know when I leave the house and come home, they are just not angry when I do so!

Bottom line is that I am very happy with my combo and highly recommend the Drummer setup, with the 'modified' dB Killer.

Happy Motoring Kids.
