Hello Buddies: I filled up a week ago and got 33 MPG and was floored and I just filled up again (after trying to be more conservative but I dont tear it up anyway...never above 80 and dont redline) and got 40MPG but still off the 50 MPG esitmated. Exhaust smells rich almost like gasoline. Tires are with proper pressure and its bone stock and otherwise handles great and has 500 miles original miles. I'd guess it needs to be tuned or checked on by the shop? Any advice of where to start to get better mileage? Thanks!  | ||

How many miles are on it? Is that 500 miles on the bike or just the tires? If you have only 500 miles on the bike, your motor isn't broken in yet, and will see subpar fuel economy. A Race ECM can also help pick the numbers up too. (Message edited by Froggy on March 21, 2012) | ||

If you only have 500 miles on it then it isn't broke in. I've read countless threads about how the XB/HD motors mpg gradually get better. I own a 2005 xb12scg and I have never gotten less then 50 mpg. I bought it used with 5,700 miles. | ||

FWIW, my '08TT was in the same MPG neighborhood at 500mi. I followed the break-in procedures in the owners manual, and let the miles build. The MPGs improved steadily. It took something in the area of 2.5k miles to finally stabilize. | ||

Yea you have at least another 500 to break into the 40-50 range. | ||

Hey fellas. If you don't mind me butting in, I get a consistent 38-40 mpg in my 08 uly (20,000 miles). It spins 3000 RPM @60 mph and I'm a fairly conservative rider. I bought it used 8k miles ago and It doesn't look like there are any aftermarket mods done. Do you other XB riders see about the same engine speed at 60? Does anyone know the OE final drive pulley sizes? I wonder if maybe mine was geared down at some point. | ||

Mrakz83, That seems about right. I know mine does about 32-33 hundred RPMS at 70 mph. I ride real easy and I can't recall ever having more than 3500 total spinning on my tach so maybe I ride too easy. LOL If you have bags or taller windshield that will effect your mpg also. BTW I only weigh 145lbs. Your gearing could have been changed but I doubt it. More than likely you just throttle a little harder than I do. I have 33,000 miles on mine now and the MPG is real consistent. Good luck and I hope I helped you out. |
