Does anyone know of or have experience with any H7 motorcycle specific bulbs? Where can I buy a set? One of my Sylvania SilverStar Ultra bulbs that I bought last year is shot already. I believe the XT shook it to death.

I am not interested in re-wiring anything for HID bulbs as I rarely ride at night. I just want a pair of heavy duty bulbs I can put in the stock reflector. Any ideas? Thanks!

Oops, not sure how to edit the Thread Title. Should read Specific, not Specifc.
Never did learn to type.

I used a Philips Moto Vision lamp on the low beam for 10k miles on my 06 Uly. I had no problems and I still have it. Over voltage is more likely to kill a lamp than vibration although, of course, it does not help any. I have always used normal car lamps on bikes and have never had one fail. Just buy a decent brand.

That question is why me (and a lot of others) slapped a HID into the low beam. Maybe 2x the cost of a silverstar, but will last 10x as long.

My high beam is still stock though.

Uly_man,I thought Sylvania was a decent brand? They work fine in my cars.

Reepicheep, are you speaking of an HID bulb that fits into the stock socket with no wiring changes?

I just don't want to add any more to the wiring on this bike. They have enough electrical issues as is. The only wiring extras I have done are the top box tail light/brake light and wired the switch so both headlights are on with high beam. (At least they were until yesterday.) Thanks.

HIDs are fitted with no wiring changes and a std lamp can be re-fitted with no problem or re-wire if you have a failed HID ballast/lamp. Or just buy a Osram.

I like those lights you saw on facebook also. I'm sure I can't afford them, but I would like to know. : )

Motorbike, right. The DDM 35w kits are pretty much just plug and play*. The 55 watt kits aren't though.

(* It will plug in, but you have to cut a rubber cup I think, and you have to find places under the windscreen to stuff various new bits and pieces. It goes old headlight wire to another wire, up into several wires and components that will be under your flyscreen, then down to a new bulb connector that goes to a new HID bulb in the stock housing. Its doable with work on a lightning, easy on a Uly or Firebolt. You will also not be able to use high and low beam simultaneously unless you are holding down the flash to pass button. And the light will spill a bit and bother other drivers a bit, though in 4 years of running HID's I have probably only been flashed 4 times).

I just did the HID in the low beam, I would not waste money on Sylvania.

Wagner BP1255-H7LL Long Life bulbs, survived the many spikes they got from my failing VR couple months ago and won't break the bank. Regular H7's would flare and blow out when the voltmeter surged to red, found the LL's and no problems now.

Those lights are from the HD FL LED headlight kit and are used for the aux lights.

"I just did the HID in the low beam, I would not waste money on Sylvania." Either would I or other brand of Halogen lamp.

"It will plug in, but you have to cut a rubber cup I think, and you have to find places under the windscreen to stuff various new bits and pieces. It goes old headlight wire to another wire, up into several wires and components that will be under your flyscreen, then down to a new bulb connector that goes to a new HID bulb in the stock housing. Its doable with work on a lightning, easy on a Uly or Firebolt." Very true. It does take a little effort but no problem. I have two of the new slimline HID ballasts and a air horn as well under the cowl of my Uly and all is fine.

"You will also not be able to use high and low beam simultaneously unless you are holding down the flash to pass button."
If you do one of the various "low with high beam" mods it is fine. You will also have no "dazzle" problems with 35w HIDs
(as the same output to a 55w Halogen) if the light housing is set up right. The 55w HIDs are way to bright, not needed and not legal in most places either. You could have insurance problems in a accident situation.

The thing to remember about modern slimline HID systems is that they are nothing like the old type. As with the new type LED chips they are outstanding. Best of all they are dirt cheap. My HIDs have a 2 year warrenty. How can you go wrong.

Wow! Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I never realized there are so many choices.

Tootal, do you (or anyone else on here) have any experience with the Osram Rallye 65W bulbs you recommended?

My Sylvania Silverstar Ultras were working great, until one burned out... Thanks!

""My Sylvania Silverstar Ultras were working great, until one burned out... Thanks!""

I ran those in my Jeep Liberty a few years ago - never off-road, and never abused.

It seemed as if they lasted about 6mos. I was always replacing one or the other. I will never
run those again. It was a nicer/brighter light, though.

I've been running them for two years now. No problem. They are rated at 500 hours and have 50 percent more lumens of light than a stock 55 watt. There has been no heat issues either, my reflectors are fine. I've run off road with them in rough country and still no problems.

Any thoughts about the fact that the Osram Rallye 65W bulbs are for off-road use only and are not street legal? Or am I just a chicken? Would law enforcement personnel even notice? I never ride the XT off-road, 100% paved roads only.

I was just about to order a set of the Osram 65W after reading Tootals recommendation but chickened out at the last moment. Thoughts?

Motorbike, the only time a leo has looked at me funny is when my blown Voltage Regulator was sending 17 volts to my headlights and they both blew out! I knew why he was looking at me since it's the law so I pointed at the lights and gave him a thumbs up to let him know I knew and he just nodded and waved. If you're running the low beam the cut off is pretty dramatic so even though they are brighter they are not offensive. If you're running your brights with oncoming traffic then you might piss off a copper but if your considerate there should be no problem.

Thanks Tootal! I have my headlight switch modified so both lights are on when it is in the bright position. I rarely ride at night and always try to be courteous and dim my lights for oncoming vehicles. When I get stopped by a cop, it is usually for speeding. I doubt they would look that close at my lights while filling out my ticket. I think I will go ahead and order a set of the Osram Rallye 65W. Thank you all for your replies!
