Finally, after months of waiting for some free time, got the M2 back on the road. An instructor at the local tech school welded up my broken header. I got a stock muffler and the rear loop for hanging it from the ebay guy that parts things out (I know he gets bashed here, but he really helped me) Now I can hardly hear this bike run at all, it's as quiet as my Yamaha Seca 400 from the early 1980s, and it is a little slower than the straight pipe I had, at least as far as the butt-dyno is concerned. Cycle Rider magazine called the '99 muffler and swingarm "agricultural" when they reviewed it, so I'm calling this the tractor muffler

I really like the torque and quiet sound of the stock arrangement. Plus the intake. 2001 M2L STOCK. I did ceramic coat the header and muffler to protect it. |

said you had a straight pipe? I am looking to build a staight pipe for my bike and experiment with some various baffles for it. I would love to hear what you had and your experiances. I actually am currently running a $17 Flowtech glass pack from Summit Racing on my bike right now. It isn't quite what I was looking for in sound, but the stock pipe just didn't make my bike feel right when riding it. I like a little thunder, it is a toy after all. |

My straight pipe was way too heavy, and didn't have any front support. One wrong dip in the road and 'snap!' there it went. I kept the 90 off the front and scrapped the rest at work. My tinkering side wants to put a butterfly valve in a 2.5" pipe with a solenoid so I can turn it open more or tie it to the tach, then a baffle, and finally lots of empty pipe. You can get a deep rumble without alot of dB by using 'echo cans' like they did back in the 1950s. I sold flamethrower kits for a few thousand cars before I sold the business ( www.flamethrowers.com ) and know how well this works. I need a little more rumble too : ) |

I currently have th 90 from my WileyCo pipe. I have a 2" pipe I wanted to try with a baffle and see how that works. |
