I toasted my fan today - I imagine it's due to the oil leak from the rear rocker gasket. Anyone know the current part number for the fan unit? I would like to have the # in hand when I go into the Harley dealer - just to make sure they get it right. Also, anyone know how long the fix is - and how involved? Thanks John |

06 book lists it as Y0050.02A8A. Service manual says remove the shock for access. Haven't had to do it, yet, myself. |

The procedure isn't that difficult, although twisting the assembly just right to get it back in can be a little frustrating. You might change out the oxygen sensor while you're in there, Murphy's Law you know. Don't forget to reconnect the fan connector, somebody I know did once... |

Well, as luck (or the motorcycle gods) would have it, all it was, was an incorrect fuse. Someone had inadvertently placed a 10 amp fuse in the fan slot. I simply replaced it with a slightly higher 20 amp, and all is well. The fan runs, although, slightly slower for some reason, but it runs. I guess I dodged a bullet on that one guys no new fan needed after all. ... |

I donīt know which bike you have, on my 2006 Ulysses the fuse for the fan has a 10A piece. You can step up the gauge of the fuse as high as you want; there is a moment where the wire in the harness will act as a fuse because it cant't handle the current. |

According to my 2006 manual, "The ECM, cooling fan, brake/horn and accessory fuses are rated at 10 amps." I would put that 10 ampper back in. The 04 book shows 7.5 amps instead so even that should be more than enough. |

I upped the amperage on the fan fuse once. It blew while on a road-trip and I only had a 15 amp fuse available in my kit to replace it with. The next thing in the fan circuit to act as a fuse were the windings on the fan motor. When the smoke cleared I yanked the fuse and rode about 400 miles in 90 degree heat with no fan..no problem...the fan was dead anyway so I didn't really lose anything. |

So far, my fan seems to be ok, but then I'm replacing a bad crank. |
