and im sitting here, totally happy with my bike. allthough i do have unanswered questions. see my first bike is this one. and although i turned her knobs the wrong way  , i love this bike. but while i hear you talk about how easy this bike is to handle, I dont get to appreciate that because the only other bike i have ridden is a v-rod. so while a xb is a great handling bike, do you think its not a beginners bike? because im having issues appreciating it. btw. its not so much the liquor but the weather that is affecting my emotions as I havent been able to ride the bike in 2 weeks and i dont see another oppourtunity for another month or two  mookie right handed thread poster | ||

Increase you riding time and move to California. I won't brag about that here on this thread. Probably the easiest and cheapest way is to go demo a Blast. If you feel you need to explore other bikes, try taking a spin on any of your buddies Japanese machines. If you trust them enough, swap. They will be impressed and will probably figure out how they can get a Buell. Just be careful on the Jap bikes, because they will not handle like yours(Real Pigs). Sure they will accelerate faster in a straight line, and perform well in a narrow power band. It is hard keeping the revs and transmission in harmony. By the way, ask them how much their maintenance costs them especially on those unmentionable Italian machines. | ||

.... <-- Pays attention to this thread. this is my first bike also. Only think I noticed is that when I sit on other bikes, they feel HUUUUGGEEE. I always ask the sales rep or my friends.. "How do you turn this damn thing?, the wheelbase is so long?". So yeah, I have a hard time knowing just how good I got it. Not that I mind, mind you, but still. | ||

experience is all you need...and with the xb's you do have to play by its rules in certain situations. To me thats whats great. But if this is your first bike and have nothing to compare it too thats a different story. you'll be fine and just enjoy your bike. It is a great bike. everybike is different and in my eyes not a one is better than another. It all has to do with what you want out of your bike. and then exploring it to its fullest. I have more bikes in my life time than I can remember (33 years of riding) to me the XB9R was exactly what I was looking for right now in my life and riding style. we can all read so much info on bikes that you get to a point that you don't know what the hell any of them really are like. Look at it this way the basic structure of a bike has not changed in 80 years really. 2 wheels,frame,engine and handlebars. yes there been innovations and such but it is basically the same. so enjoy your bike and learn it to its potential with you as a rider. Take a riding school ,ride the roads, do a track day here and there and enjoy it. | ||

I think that's the best advice mookie could get !!! My 2 cents worth, ain't much I know, is that your going to be uncomfortable at first and it wouldn't matter the bike so just ride, ride, and ride some more and each time you will get more comfortable !! Go ride an R1,Gsxr-1000,or a 954 and you'll find out what you bought(a great handling ,extremely fun,probably reliable,75 horsepower,could shift a little smoother,slightly overweight,aircooled v-twin) All of the above mentioned bikes feel lighter,shift smoother,will totally run away from an XB9 or 12 in a roll on in a straight line in any gear.Apparently in the curves it's up to the rider,but we're talking riding on public roads. An XB would be an incredible 1st bike,(or 2nd or 3rd)but i think alot of Buell people will eventually go to an import though(yah,in my opinion they are that much better at this date) Just my honest opinion as a 33 year rider of lots of different bikes.As i keep reading on these boards"there really are no bad motorcycles being produced today". | ||

thanks. Ive ridden my bike for the past 4 months and i am pretty comfortable with it. being 6'4'' doesnt make it the most comfortable at all times but i dont have much of a problem other than riding in the rain from chicago to detroit. eventually i will have to talk someone into letting me ride their bike so i can see the difference. guys i have spoken to on need to tell me how fast their bike is, how they ran from a police chopper last year, and if you get pulled over, 1. stop and wait for the police to stop.2 . go! because he cant catch up to you. for some reason, i dont really care for their opinion on how their bikes handle. im 30 years old with 2 kids at a wife (for the moment). i bought the buell because its a practical bike wether its my 1st bike or not. sorry that some of you have to work today. Im even sorrier for you if you are a telemarketer calling my house on christmas eve and i answer.. | ||

Mookie... Mookie... Mookie... You have the coolest... most funest ride... with some really coolerer innovative features... people see you ride by... and THEY WANT TO BE YOU!!! What you need to realize... What the problem is... is... PMS Parked Motorcycle Syndrome But that is one reason there is the Badweb... It is the PMS support group site. Come to my place... bring lots of alcohol... and we will hang out in the bike shop and watch motorcycle racing... and exchange lies about riding experiences. The more we drink... the better the stories get. Hang in there bud!!! Warm weather will eventually return!!! I am having withdrawal symptoms myself... I haven't rode since Thanksgiving... and even worse... Saturday was a beautiful day... but I had my son... and he has too much common sense to get on the back of my XB... so I couldn't ride. WILL THE COLD WEATHER EVER END??? | ||

yeah i hear you. it almost got up to 50 deg on monday and I had to play with the family all day. next day it gets close im out of here. i am going to virginia next month and the first thing i was thinking of was the weather there and if i should trailer the bike there for 3 weeks. then i heard im going to louisana for a couple of weeks too. so either way, i see a silver lining in the cloud. but my patience is running thin. i guess this is the time i could go fishing then. | ||

c'mon guys get out there and ride, it was 17 degrees this morning, when I came to work and I rode my bike, just beware of cold tires. I never have to deal with PMS for more than a week, so long as they're not covered in snow and ice, I'm out there havin fun! | ||

AZfirebolt, thats not saying much bout rain. I used to live in phoenix  I remember rain about 5 days out of a year. Of course rain on those roads after months of oil and schmootz build up makes those roads almost as bad as black ice. | ||

Azfirebolt... It's called getting old... I have circulation problems with my feet... due to frostbite... medication for high blood pressure... and a family history of diabetes... and all that seems to be cumulative... when it gets below 40 degrees... I often loose my feet within minutes... AND THAT KILLS ME... a couple of years ago... I would ride until the streets got slick... or it dropped below the mid 20s. IF I WOULDA KNOWN I WAS GONNA LIVE THIS LONG... I WOULDA TOOK BETTER CARE OF MYSELF. This condition contributed to me dropping my BMW last winter! | ||

Bubba: RIGHT ON!! Mookie; like anything else it takes time to learn - and if you're smart you'll realize that you can spend your whole life learning. I find that to be one of the most fun parts about life  So read books, take MSF classes, go to parking lots and practice, do track days etc. etc. Oh, and ditch the "I ran from the Police" morons. No. Maurice Franklin Jones. Long story. anyways... I think that I learned my answer this evening by watching videos of other bikes and couldnt understand why they were all going so slow through those curves.... Im no knocking their riding abilites as i havent ridden for a year yet... Im just thinking that stretch would have been more riding my bike. if they could pry me from it. either way justified the reason that my grandma made me wear clean underwear..
