Sooo... I finally got my exhaust stud issue sorted out, and I'm starting to bolt some things in place. I'm having some trouble sorting out some of the mounting tabs. Got the header mounted with my newly located studs and I have the rear of the new can in place but there's mounting tabs on both the header and the slip on that don't line up with anything... The slip on looks like it's supposed to line up with the bolt about 2 inches behind it, but no luck. even if I pull it off the header and slide the can towards the rear as far as possible in the slotted mounting bracket, it won't slide back far enough. What kind of brackets am I missing? |

Hot damn... $137 seems steep. Any other options? |

there is also a little bracket that goes from that very front mount at the collector. HEADER TIEBAR 65947-97YA (for the 97 S3 at least) the race pipes don't have this mounting point, and i don't utilize it on any of mine. FWIW. |

When that Y hanger retrofit kit first came out it was $100, and that was a decade ago. It's still worth it at $137. |

Yep the upper one is just a pc about 2" long with a hole on the motor side and a twist half way then a slot on the exhaust side. The bottom is the y bracket 60 is a giod price it is worth it the old style mount will break the welds on the muffler |

The Y bracket is pricey, but still cheaper than the header you'll have to replace if you don't use the right bracket. You will crack it; that's why they re-designed the bracket. |

If you do not update to the "Y" bracket and correctly install the exhaust system you will be plagued with exhaust problems ... ie: broken exhaust header STUDS Header CRACKS muffler brackets BREAKING all caused by SYSTEM "STRESS" !!! EXHAUST SYSTEM Class 101, just PM me for your copy ... |

had 30k miles on my original bracket with no exhaust header issues... No cracks, no broken studs. YMMV |

Aaron, Looks to me you may have another issue that needs addressing. Your rear cylinder head gasket looks like it's leaking. There is black oil/carbon type marks all the way around at the head/cylinder junction. The right front also looks suspicious. The rear base also is suspect.. BTW, go with the "Y" bracket it offers a wider fitment window than the single. |

Bluzm2: I'm sure it needs gone through. But it runs. The heads are going to need to be replaced eventually anyway, due to the exhaust stud issues I had. I'm just gettin it on the road for now. |
