Ken, yes they would with the right pistons. Same bor on the XB9, different stroke. You would need to change the front motor mount as the bolt spacing on the heads is different. |

Any head is going to require matching pistons. Squish angles, dome/dish, and other specifications have to match up. What is your issue with the 883 heads, what don't you like about them? |

Well they will work just fine but its not the way the motor is suppost to preform it sounds silly but i will know they are there and knowing my self that would meen i would drop the motor again and switch them so i am going to skip a step and do it now. Another question if i get 06 heads, pistons, jugs, and rockers what will i need to swap to mount it? Will my exhaust fit, motor mount ( which one), any of the carb stuff intake motor stabalizer parts? |

S1, If you get the 06 set up then you will need a custom front motor mount which is sold by American Sport Bike. If using XB heads then will also need the car mount holes drilled in the heads but that really isn't a big deal. Thunderstorm sets are pretty common and don't require the new mount. |

Those 883 heads you speak of in the other thread have had the valves changed out to larger ones. I haven't seen where you got them from but I'd point out that my riding buddy used Jerry Branch heads, which are done on an exchange basis whereby a set of heads, preferably 883 (because they have lots of material already there), are welded up, machined with bigger valves, proper ports, etc. So his heads would have casting marks reading 883 but would be a better head than a stock Thunderstorm. So you might want to investigate why your 883 heads have larger valves. If you do go for an up grade, you will need a new, custom, engine mount that costs a couple of hundred, I think, if you use XB heads. But you might be able to use the same flat-top pistons.(?) If you use Thunderstorm heads, you will have to change pistons but won't need the new motor mount. Since the engine is apart anyway, you should probably be expecting to go ten thou over on a re-bore and new pistons anyway. Everything else is unchanged. (carb mount, exhaust, etc.) |

Pay attention to what Sportyeric says as if they have big valves the ports probably have been worked over too ... If they have, keep the these heads ... Like "i" said, unless you get INFORMATION from previous owner/owners you do not have a clue what you got ... If the have been done over by Jerry Branch, you will find none better ... Back in the day when the HARLEY-DAVIDSON RACING Department were KR ROAD RACERS at DAYTONA at the SPEEDWAY with Jerry Branch's HEAD/PORTING. they would run 150 MPH !!! |

Thanks for the insight but the heads we took off the buell are deffinetly nothing that good they have been messed with but not correctly. The valves are interchangeable with a 100% stock 883 heads you would have to see them to understand. The PO did not take care of this bike i have been going thru it since the day i bought it metric nuts on standard bolts leaks bad wiring etc thats ok i new it going in and got it for the right price i wanted a project to make mine! |

Bluzm2 has it right, you need a new front mount for an XB head. When the XB's came out their heads were reputed to flow better than the thunderstorm/domed piston engine. The XB's went back to a lightning/flat top piston engine making this an EZ upgrade for the S1. Call Al at American Sport Bike for the latest greatest news. |

XB heads require XB pistons and the NRHS XB tuber front motor mount. XB9 and XB!@ heads are the same. Pistons are different between the two. You can use ( pistons in a tuber (I run them, but do a squish test) for 12:1 compression, otherwise the 12 pistons give you 10.5:1. |
