The only cars I dislike were the big fat wide automobiles that could pass as land yachts from the 70s.

Cars are like women - something nice about each one in their own way!!!!!!

Think I'm gonna take shit for that comment!!!!

My old Yugo was pretty ugly...but I paid $2999.00 for a brand spaking new one in 1989 and used it for 2 years with no problems and then gave it to my dad who used it for 3 more in upstate New York also with no major problems. It was like driving a street legal go cart.

Aztec -- Pontiac has always led GM in coming up with wonka ideas (and, to be fair, good ones as well)

Minivans/SUVs -- they are mental and emotional equal

Pacer -- fishbowl with wheels

I LIKE the VW thing . . .pretty good knock-off of the Kubelwagen (sp?)

Personally, I don't think the Aztec was supposed to go into production. I think some designer came back from an extended vacation only to find the horror that through some accident the concept car he was working on somehow found its way to production. He being the target of all management hostilities as those above him refused to take responsibilty for the fubar, is no longer employeed by Pontiac and was last known to woking on a new SUV at Honda.

My vote, hmmm, so many fugly cars....
In no particular order:

The bathtub Chevy Caprice particulary the one with the wheel skirts.
Pontiac Aztek
Honda Element
Any Citron
Russian Trabant (sp?)
AMC Pacer
The new Honda hybred.

I guess for late model cars it has to be the Element...

Actually, I've seen a well done up Aztec with a nice paint job and wheels.
It looked pretty cool. I should have taken a picture.

Mini vans may be ugly but for an active family they can't be beat. Try hauling 4 or 5 hockey players and gear in a normal car.....

Brad

marketing has once again won out over common sense

"Try hauling 4 or 5 hockey players and gear in a normal car..... "

true enough, but the number of minivans so deployed is roughly equal to the number of SUVs that are used as originally designed . . . . .

Nev . . . .my widfe and I both have long remarked on the fact that somthing that displays clean lines, and simple design is always more expensive than something that's overdesigned and detailed . . . . furniture, jewelry, architecture, cars . . . . . .

Bomber, do you have any kids? Current child restraint laws practically dictate SUV's or minivans if you've got three or more kids. Two baby seats in the back seat of any "non-humongous" vehicle prevent anyone else from sitting there. One of the primary reasons we bought a Tahoe was that my eldest son sat pressed to the passenger door with the baby seats next to him. A simple trip to the grocery store with three kids, the baby bag, and the stroller left little room for groceries. AND, that was already in an Xterra. I haven't met anyone who bought a minivan because they WANTED one, they were a practical necessity.

Sure would be nice, though, if someone made one with a five speed. Sigh....

Never ceases to amaze me on how mankind survived without all these idiotic laws. Not to mention, those that think they know better are thinking up and drafting new laws to take even more freedoms (and their inherent responsibilities) away.

Ben

yessir, I do (although older than yours by a bit) . . .. and I agree, current cars do not allow for good seating . . .. but the reason for that is full-sized cars have disappeared due to the market drying up cuz SUVs and Minivans took over. . .. . . again, the vast majority of of minivans and SUVs are not used by folks that need em (of course, I don't need my M2, either, a Bridgestone 90cc is likely more than enought bike for me) . . .it's, for many folks, an emotional and ego-driven decision, rather than a logical decision . . ..

as always (and I never remember to write this), IMO and YMMV

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the old Edsel.
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/8/40097118.htm

And for a kid hauler, why not just get an old sled, would probably seat 4 kid seats in the rear easily.

Nevco:

That's a tough call to make. The helmet I wear is held to a standard that exceeds the DOT's requirements, and in my state helmet laws were recently eliminated. My son is REQUIRED to wear his helmet when riding his bike or skateboarding, not because its a law but because his parents said so. I am no fan of laws enforcing personal responsibility, but that won't change my personal actions. If child seats were available and NOT mandatory, I'd use them anyway. Advances in safety technology (such as back protectors) are not in themselves evil technology. Can't say I understand the transition of their beneficial use from good idea to law, so I guess in principle I agree with you.

Personally, I think if you ride without a helmet and go down hard, the local constable should be allowed to put you out of your misery, just like the other unprotected dumb animals who cross the road. (IMO, YMMV, and so on)

Purchase of a minivan an ego-driven decision? Hmmm... Probably not what you meant, but made me laugh.

What would be nice, though, is small sedans where three kids (in their apparatus) could comfortably fit. I mean, how can somoeone with 12" wide shoulders require a seat assembly thats 30" wide?

Waaaaaay off topic.

Um, the cadillac escalade with the optional chrome wheels and low profile tires is up there on the ugly scale too.
