Brad, Great Pics! One hint... set the dpi to around 70 or so, or if your photo processing app uses a "quality" setting instead, set it at around 60-70%. You'll then be able to upsize the pic significantly. Even better, try the compression app offered by www.xat.com . Which road is that? It looks familiar. |

I compressed them at 15% at the highest quality available. I'll play with them some. Arkansas Highway 103 isn't a through road, so it is probably not well known to anyone but locals and white water types that hit the Mulberry River after a thunderstorm...dirt at all the outlets would force most riders to turn around and come back the way they came....you know, that invisible force field at the pavement's end. Some SERIOUS switchbacks up there! Weather here good for a couple more days...chance of snow Monday...pickep up my XB9SL today...gotta hurry and ride! brad edited by bradj on November 20, 2003 |

You win the award for most conscientious poster! Thanks. It surprises me to see people forgetting that they can delete their posts. I think I rode that road last Spring. Stayed in Clarksville for three nights and did about 300 miles each of the two days there. It is far and away the best riding within a day's ride of East Texas. |

When you ever visit Europe: Do spend some time in Florence (= Firenze, Italy). I spend there just a fourthnight: Overwhelming number of architectural artworks of the last milennium: All packed within the few square miles of the city center. Well, any travel guide will tell you more about that fabulous city. The traffic is more Buell related. Stay away there with a Buell: Too fast. I saw those days ONE riding Ducati, ONE HD Vrod in front of a bar (as usual), a few Hondas, Yamahas and Suzukis but a zillion scooters: Piaggio, Honda, Aprillia. Stop and go traffic with lots of larm. Cars and scoots come only to a full stop when there is not the smallest hole to crawl in and at a distance of 4 inches. The traffic is fluently Like molecules in a pot of boiling water. King of the road is the bicyclist. Seems me that they have the dead penalty on hurting a pushbiker. My wife, who has been there already in the past persuaded me to hire bicycles because it was the easiest way of transportation: Allowed on pathways for pedestrians, on special lanes for busses and taxis, and even upstreams in oneway traffic. The last possibility was even the best: You could see you opponent straight in the eyes. My wife wanted to show me how to ride there: Off she went: Right into the oncoming cars: I saw her head between the traffic rapidly disappearing. No screaming tires, no claxonning far away, me just left alone with me newly hired bike. Well, ehh...I took no time to consider it fully as it would absolutely convince me that it was against all odds to get safely through that street. But what? Those inhabitants did a wonderful job: The did succeed all to miss me and acted like normal. Real masters of timing and precision. My wife was right, as usual, (but you never can be sure of it :-). Hans...Thanks for the story and pictures. Plan to travel Europe someday and like to read all I can about it. Concerning your wife's leading you astray on the bicycle, are you sure she doesn't have a secret life insurance policy on you? |

Thanks for the kind words Nevco1 and Court. And Nevco: I am pretty sure my wife has no secret life insurance policy: Today is our 34th marriage anniversary and I know her a little bit: She would have overdone it heavily and begged me to keep it safe to free herself from guild on the forehand Few more pictures more: The reason why those ancient houses need such huge front doors became clear when I saw this one half open: And how could I forget this one in the garden of a palace on the hills around Florence: Hans |

My wife ventured out of the neighborhood on New Years' Day She rode to the local Wal Mart and back twice! She had just returned to "the nest" after her grand adventure when I snapped this photo. She had me print a copy for her...she's so proud. I am too.
