My check engine light comes on every time I ride on interstate , It has to be something with gaining speed at faster rate. When I get to destination and start back up the engine light does not come on. Don't do a lot of interstate riding so it did'nt seem to be a problem. On my last ride the check engine light came on but now it keeps coming on every time I start up.There is no performance issues so far, just the light. Trying to find out where to start looking for the problem, any suggestions would be great. Thank you

If you can hook up a meter to your battery and ride with it to see if there is a charging system issue.

Okay I can do that, just curious on why a charging system issue would cause the check engine light to turn on ? I'm not having an issue with starting . Would it be indicating a battery problem before the battery looses charge?

Is your fan running fine?

You need to follow the procedure in your service manual to check the codes, that will help you figure out what the issue is.

You will need a short piece of wire to jump pins 1 and 2 on the diagnostics port.

Thanks Terry, Getting anxious to ride , I started Bike this morning just to see how it started and sounded. started up fine and sounded normal but I did notice that the check engine light would come on then go off for around 12 sec then come back on. Thought I would throw that out there to see if that indicates anything. As far checking the data I will do that this weekend, is there a specific type of wire i need to use?

Any type of wire will work as long as it fits good into the plug.

Good news guys, I finally spent a little time today with my buell and realized the brake light and horn was not working, had a blown fuse and that triggered the diagnostic light . Put in a new fuse and all is good. Plus I finally broke down and bought a service manuel , thanks for the suggestions!
