I finally got to spend some time with the 2008 Uly Vern and I picked up in Chicago last week. The bike runs strong except as it nears 4k rpms it gets very noisy the the noise stops at about 4500 rpms. Its a very clean drop in vibration and noise after this point. The bike does have a bad muffler actuator valve. It almost soundsd like a reed valve opening and closing on an old 2 stroke. I have looked for vibration points with no luck. Any thoughts? |

If it is broken and closed that would seem normal. Wire that sucker open and see how it responds. |

I kind of tried keeping the valve open but I wanted to do it at the muffler side. Too hard to do by myself. Since this is a warranty repair I'm trying to avoid doing anything that will compromise the repair. I'm just curious if its related to the actuator valve or something else I should be looking into. |

You can pop the cover off and cycle the key. Watch the actuator and see if it moves. Do it again and put your hand on the muffler and feel if the valve opens. The valve may be fine and the servo may be fine. If the cable is toast....... |

Thanks Jeremy. I'll give that a try tomorrow. |

That's what my bike does when the front muffler support bolt breaks and falls out. Seems like the engine vibrates just right at that RPM to highlight anything that's loose. You might want to check all the hardware on the bike that you can find. |

George, my 06 uly used to vibrate at about 3500 rpm. The horn was hitting the front face plate below the wind screen. I'll check the muffler mounts and other hardware. Thanks for the heads up. I probably need to check the motor mounts too. |

My '08 had the horn issue as well. There were obvious semicircular rub marks on the inside of the flyscreen. Just bend the mount tab back a bit. |

You might have debris in your muffler. I had a few small pieces of metal in the first compartment and it would make a noise EVERY time when throttle is above 50% between 3750 and 4k. Took me over a year to figure out what it was. -Mike |

hey there "Head-O-da-Pecker".... sometimes a vibe at a certain RPM can be the primary chain... and it does tend to make a "Waaa Waaa" vibey noise if its loose you'll spend more time finding the tools to adjust it than the adjustment takes. might be worth a look |

I found it! After returning from the HD dealer to get my exhaust valve actuator replaced, I still had the noise. It really reminded me of the time my horn vibrate against the windscreen on my 06 It turned out to be my chin fairing vibrating at 4k rpm. While idling in my carport I got off the bike, revved it to 4k and stuck the toe of my boot between the tire and the front of the chin fairing. Voila! No more buzz. I still need to figure out what to do to silence it but at least I know what it is. Thanks for all the suggestions! |

I take it back. The front muffler band clamp is missing. Guess I'll check around for an alternative. |

This one time.....at band clamp..... OR..... Ah needs me a new Jed.....Jed Clampet that is! You go on now. If HD doesn't have it try Fleet Pride, Truck Pro, or Landmark International trucks for a stainless muffler clamp. |

Nope I already hit George up. I ordered the clamp and an oil filter from Buell Parts yesterday, they shipped it for a reasonable fee and it will be here Friday. In the meantime I bought a cheapo clamp at Lowes. The bike is soooooo smooth now. Let's ride! |

Great ride today Mark! So good to see you back on a Uly! For that matter it was great to be back on my Uly for a fun ride. Nice bike. It'll do for some more frequent outings for sure. |

Yep, it was a great ride. I got the new front muffler strap installed today. Runs nice and smooth. I think our next ride needs to be to The Snake or maybe the Cherohala Skyway. |
