Invalid "Anonymous" post by Ironhead1977 I would rather have the 9 engine due to less heat and vibration (Message edited by blake on September 22, 2011) |

Luso, can you double check your VIN? I don't think what you posted is correct.... Thanks! |

Thanks, that solves one problem. But the last four digits look odd relative to your build date as well... are those right also? |

I plotted mileage vs good or bad for 2007 model year only: http://bit.ly/nTGO2r Looks like after 20K miles its a crap shoot, could go at any time, or maybe last to 100K like Dirt. |

Bumping this thread. I have my rear jug off right now, and felt for any play in the crank, and there is none. FWIW. I'm at about 23k I think. |

Reep, maybe I can be pulled off the list? Since I no longer have a bad crank? |

07 Uly 18000 mi, started making a rhythmic bearing rubbing sorta noise so I pulled motor and split cases looking for cause, found nothing obvious so freshened up top end (there were some signs of piston scoring in the bores which I assume is due to inadequate warm up occasionally,my fault). Reassembled, same noise Argggg. At this point I vowed to ignore odd noises till they manifested into damage which they shortly did, front big end rod bearing gone.It just wasn't bad enough when I disassembled to feel by hand. I put in a used motor from buellster parts and plan to rebuild original motor with rebuilt crank or possibly a new style crank (08 and up). |

MH, I know how you feel. I still have a few small issues after I replaced my crank. Seems the transmission has some weird shifting issues it didn't have before. Not sure why. Also changed the oil and noticed some fine particles in it suspended. Not sure if it's from residue of the old crank or something new. Like everyone else, I just want to ride my bike not work on it. |

Moved this thread to the knowledge vault. Mr_hyde, can you share your VIN, or at least build date, for our confirmed failure list? Thanks! |

Interesting- first case of a failed 07 XB9 crank I've seen: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 720429.html?1377912034 Guy is looking for engine or parts to rebuild his XB9SX with failed rear rod crank bearing. |

The 9's certainly seem easier on the cranks. But cranks go on all kinds of bikes (I have a used one from a KX-80 I'll give you a *great* deal on ). Worth watching though... |

My `06 Uly failed over a year ago, oil pump drive gear destroyed, and it was the "better" one. Crank was .015, not acceptable. I was not going to just replace the gear, as it would of happened again. Installed `08 crank, and bearings from Dark Horse. Build date: 12/05 Miles: 17K |
