Ok now I used to have a Honda Hornet and loved to stunt about on it.
The old clutch wheelie on the 600 cc was dead easy, slip it and up she popped UP at anything from 6000rpm -8000 RPM in 2nd gear.

Now I was out the other day in a nice quite country road and I tried my first wheelie on the XB9R....I have a race kit fitted so thought I'd take it easy (i know its only a few bhp).....lol

Well after slipping it in 2nd Gear and trying to pop one I was having serious trouble, I felt like I was a bloody learner all over again, I was getting it to about 4000rpm then dropping the clutch (thinking the torque would do the rest) where do you guys (if you do) drop the clutch?

Its my first twin and I thought it was gonna be a piece of cake!!

S

I would appreciate it if people who have actually done this reply with an idea rather than getting any false advice.

Mmmmmmmmm........Well I don't want to do it in 1st gear, I'm not really interested in Power Wheelies because of how they come up.

Clutch in 2nd is the safest option I just wanna know if its capable in 2nd gear??

I'd have thought it is!!!!!

Just a little more than 4000.
You've got the race kit, so you have to get out of that hole. So if yer movin' in 2nd when ya get up to 4500 chop the gas, then wack it open, while you feather the clutch at the same time.
Hope that made sense to you...

sweet, maybe I was hanging back because its my new bike.....lol

Had no problems with my old bike, I guess I just need to be a little more brutal.........

Ok I'll give it a go......just seems so odd only having 7000 RPM to play with, feel like I'm gonna run out!!

wind up 1st gear to 6500rpm then nail second using the clutch and the air box cover will knock the wind out of you when the front end comes up.

4500 seems about right for 2nd gear clutch wheelies... and I have the lowly D&D

How can you describe your D&D as lowly? You paid top $$ for that Texan’s work of art! (I almost bought one also)

I suppose it was intended with a little pun or sarcasm.

It's not lowly, it's a fine system indeed.

Let's not hijack the thread eh?

Here's how to wheelie a stock XB9, or a 12 I'm sure-

Scoot your ass all the way back against the rear seat, accelerate in 1st gear up to about 3500-4000 rpm, abruptly close the throttle all the way just long enough for the fork to compress, then snap it back completely open. No clutch abuse, no tranny abuse, not that hard on the belt. Remember to cover the rear brake with your foot just in case you go too far up. You'll be around the balance point once you have to look around the side of the instruments to see the road. Guaranteed to work.

Bigsherm9r

Cheers mate but Iv'e always done Clutch wheelies, I can do the power ones but would rather not do them in 1st gear.

I just want TO clutch it up in 2nd, will try scooting back a bit more and giving it more throttle.
When I tried last week in 2nd on the clutch, it just kinda lurched and lifted about an inch......

hahaha..........sad innit.

Not sure why but I though it was gonna come up REALLY easy with all that torque and grunt.

I think its just a case of getting used to a V-Twin.

Cheers though for your reply.
