Posted this on the P3 forum in their KV but haven't seen anything yet...

I was wondering if anyone knows if a pcv grommet is available through any other source besides HD?

I'm stuck waiting for a couple of those before reassembling my XB and it's making me crazy. A search of the KV, Blast and XB forums over the last two years has not turned anything up as far as cross referencing through an outside source such as NAPA, AutoZone, Checker Auto or the likes.

I'm pretty sure a standard aftermarket cruiser shop would not source those parts either.

I'm open to ideas as I don't want to reassemble, then have to rotate my motor again just to swap out those grommets that have gotten hard and are not sealing.

Is hylomar anything like yamabond? now that I've read this thread I'm considering removing the grommets, adding an o-ring and smearing the pcv valve with a bit of the hylomar I got to back up the rockerbox gaskets seals.

Thanks in advance

Do you have the HD part #? There's a great thread in the Garage forum over on advrider called "Ask a NAPA employee." If you supply the HD part # he may be able to cross reference it in the NAPA catalogs. One of the most useful threads I've seen - kudos to Quickv4. I'll post for you if you're not a member/don't want to join for a single posting.

Jesse, thanks for your response. I've spent some time on adv rider, but don't recall ever creating an account with them.

If you don't mind would you post it up?

Found this with a google search of badweb, in the knowledge vaults, thanks to Texastechx1 and Brinnutz for posting the part number back in 2009

I'll get one loose and compare it to the pcv grommet in my truck, and the wife's car, good idea Greg.

I've ordered the parts through my dealer, but they won't be in until Wednesday, my weekend ends Wednesday so not being able to ride this bike this weekend is making me crazy. I just want to get it back together and ride. If I can find the grommets from an auto parts store...well it's supposed to warm up a bit over the next couple days, and the XB is my cold weather bike, so I want to it back together. Plus the 10mpg of my truck is killing my wallet.

Well parts have not shown at the dealership yet. I wanted to get it back together so I removed the grommets, cleaned and inspected them closely. Then I went to check a local bike shop I've not been to, and following Buellistic's advice asked for the Yamabond sealant.

They didn't have that but had Hondabond and ThreeBond, so that's what I got.

Put it together with that, and Hylomar dressing the upper rocker box gaskets and rotated the motor back into place. Bike is reassembled except for the airbox, and muffler which I'm treating for rust and repainting with a low-gloss, high-temp paint. Factory paint seems heavy (thick) and porous, rust is concentrated at the welds and the muffler inlet pipe. I think they used varying grades of metal and welding wire for different parts of the muffler. Outlet is plainly stainless.

Final note, I went in to NAPA and the salesman was less than helpful, kind of a douche actually, just pointed out the turning display with grommets in stock. One looked close but since he told me if I opened it it was mine, no returns even if I tried it right there in front of him and it was wrong. I declined to make a purchase. $6.50 makes too many PB&J sandwiches for me to just throw it away on a part that might fit.

Effen Harley and effen NAPA, they've both got me pissed after this simple repair job turned into a week long waste of time a gas running from store to store.
