my 99 x1 is making me crazy, any help would be greatly appreciated... the symptoms- hard to start, occasional puffs out of the forcewinder intake. once running barely idles and may stall.. runs like a bear to 3500 rpm but hits the wall by 4,000 where any more than part throttle bogs it down... will in no way rev past 4000 rpm background- bike sat for over a year, unfortunately for several months outside in florida summer.. had water in tank this was only about 500 miles after a 10,000 mile dealer service. i have since emptied and cleaned tank, replaced plugs, fuel filter, swapped injectors and replaced fuel pump i have also replaced the battery, checked all electrical connections, and cleaned all ground connections i could find... i've gone from non- running to running on one cylinder to sputtering on both cylinders, to where i'm at now... i know i'm close and missing something... this is my only vehicle w/ injection and i'm out of ideas at this point. thanks, rich |

Why don't you take it back to the dealer that did the "service" |

Check your fuse block and clean any corrosion you find. It's located under the seat, left side. Pull the diodes too, making sure you install them into the fuse block the same way. Extremely important!!!!! Since the bike on the sidestand leans to the left and it's very humid/rainy in FL, you may have moisture in the CPS area too. I'd pop the cover off (it's riveted---caution, only use HD rivets to replace! Another thought is you may have chaffed wiring around the rotating plate that holds the CPS in place. Check the Diagnostic Plug up front, under the headlight and pulls out to the right underside of the steering stem. Has a rubber plug that fits into the connector. It may have water in it too. Check corrosion at the ignition coil too. |

My '99 S3 had a similar issue which cleared up after I replaced the CPS. Plug wires are a viable suspect, too. I can assume the plugs were gapped correctly? |

Good point, Blake. If the TPS never goes up to full throttle, neither will the fuel flow. |

it's been 2plus years since the dealer did the service... although that dealer truly sucks, the bike ran well prior to sitting... i vowed never to go back to them and i'm determined to figure this out myself... i did run a jumper wire to read the codes during the process and came up w/ 15, 16 , 33.... temp sensor, battery voltage, and fuel pump- all which are now replaced...plug wires and volt regulator are also new... plugs were gapped correctly, but i will check those again... the cam sensor passes a visual and does not throw a code... i'm waiting on my ecmspy cable, and will reset tps when it arrives mon or tues...is there a way to reset codes before i get it? meantime i will go through the fuse block again and look over the wiring... appreciate the suggestions.. |

Don't just reset it - you need to run it up and down and see that it has no flat spots. |

You can check for flat spots without ECMSpy - just hook an ohmmeter to the TPS output wires and open and close the throttle. It should have a smooth change in resistance. Got a service manual? |
