my 99 x1 is making me crazy, any help would be greatly appreciated... the symptoms- hard to start, once running barely idles and may stall.. occasional puffs out of the forcewinder intake. runs like a bear to 3500 rpm but hits the wall by 4,000 where any more than part throttle bogs it down... will in no way rev past 4000 rpm background- bike sat for over a year, unfortunately for several months outside in florida summer.. had water in tank this was only about 500 miles after a 10,000 mile dealer service. i have since emptied and cleaned tank, replaced plugs, fuel filter, swapped injectors and replaced fuel pump i have also replaced the battery, checked all electrical connections, and cleaned all ground connections i could find... this is my only vehicle w/ injection and i'm out of ideas at this point. thanks, rich |

Nah, not TP, he skewed AFR and needs to see what it is at now--guessing it is way high making bike pig rich. And check the engine temp sensor, when these go the bike thinks it is COLD and adds a ton of fuel. |

Take a plug reading - rich or lean? Sounds lean to me if it runs like a bear until it poops out. Injector wires may be compromised. Have you ever checked your timing? Mine was off when the bike was new. |

plugs read rich.... what's the steps to addressing afr? i'm waiting on my ecm spy cable (tues?) i've used a jumper wire to read codes, and came up w/ 15, 16, 33- but nothing for engine temp... can it go bad and not throw a code? |

Yes it can. Take an ohm meter to the TPS and see if it lost half of its range. If the ECM thinks you're at half throttle because that's what the TPS tells it, that would explain some of your symptoms, but not the over-rich plugs. Is your air cleaner clogged? |

Check that engine temp sensor like Jim says, that will make it run really rich and foul the plugs. |
