This afternoon I'll be headed for an interview for a promotion that should bump me up $4.50 an hour to just under $21 an hour . |

Let's see, $4.50/hr = ~$3.00/hr after taxes and deductions * ~2080/hrs/yr = $6240 of previously unrealized monies coming in. That's approximately $500/month in your pocket. Not bad at all. And beats the crud out of the 2% ping we got here a few years ago. Talk good, present yourself well, be what they're looking for and a little bit more. Sic 'em. |

M1, Good luck - our 2% (first since I've been here) just got announced, and pardon friggin me if I didn't celebrate the extra 13 bucks a week after taxes - I have an interview after the first of the year for what would be a significant raise, so flow some positive karma back my way if you do well. |

We just got word that as of January 1st sick leave is officially off the books for all non-hourly people with no known number of days-sick allowed before you get into the punitive realm. A whole bunch of folks are looking out the window today wondering about opportunities. The grass may not be greener over the hill, but all I want is for it to not be dead. Let us all know how it goes/went M1. Our spirits are with you this afternoon. |

Josh - I guess I have a bit of a foot in the door already as they tend to hire from inside if they can... Also, I used to do exactly the work that I'll be doing with this job in a previous position. Two other people applied from within as well. IMO, one of them has as good of a shot as I do and quite frankly I couldn't care less which of us get it as long as we aren't working together any more . That feeling is mutual, but we do have an excellent WORKING relationship... At any rate, I'll be doing my best at the interview which fortunately is a strength of mine. I guess now all I have to do is come up with a good answer (other than money) as to why I applied for the job . |

combat -- having recently come off the jobless list (about a year ago) in interview potential employees almost constantly, a few things stick in my head . . . .. hope they help, sir . . . .stand tall, kick butt, and take no prisoners . . . .remember that the relationship between an employee and an employer is a relationship between equals . . . . you wnat their money, they need your skills . . . . . |

Agreed . I just got back from the interview and I think I did well. They seem as if they want to hire someone from inside and the BEST part is that the BOSSMAN rides bikes AND likes racecars. We actually have sat around chatting about both subjects a few times in the last three and a half years that he's been my boss so I have that going for me. Also, the other internal guy that I figured had a good chance screwed himself pretty well today by going out to one of our departments and talking smack about some of the employees here (probably me) and of course the head of that department is a friend of my boss and he called my boss and layed into him about my co-workers lack of respect. I hate to call that a good thing, but right NOW it's a good thing . In any case, the day looks like it might turn out to be a good day. Only partly because that Cop that I wheelied in front of (a little wheelie..) didn't stop me on my way back from the interview. WOOO HOOO, I think I may have gotten it . Oh, Bomber, they asked what made me consider the position and I gave them your answers... I owe you a beer or two . |

Combat -- sounds like a possible celebration in the works . .. . let us know how it goes . . .as for beer, I'm just putting back what's been given to me in the past, bro . . . . . we all help eachother . . . . .. this board's great for that (although you might not think so if all you read was the War thread . . .. . glad to be able to help . . . .. . . |

M1 Great news - good luck and keep us posted. Bomber, Great advice - esp. about the equal relationship part - easy to forget, and I'll keep it in mind when my interview process picks up again after the first of the year. It's too easy to get negative - wow, I can't believe they offered me that much money, I'm not worth that much - sort of thing. And I think it can affect the way you interview. So I'm going to work on standing tall and kicking butt the War thread? You me and Kevyn are just kicking around some hypotheticals over a coupla virtual beers far as I can tell - I try to never take it personally, 'cause there's a good chance I'm wrong anyway } |

I read a lot of the war thread... to me it all boils down to the fact that there are a LOT of happy Iraqis right now. Damn the oil, Damn the WMD's. Free the people. Screw the french, german's and russian's. |

Oh, and BTW... If I don't get THIS position, there should be three more of the same positions opening up in the next few months, so I should have all the chances I need to make it work . I can't wait to spend my extra $500 a month . Also, in June I'll be done paying off some old debt that I've been paying at the rate of $400 a month for the last year and a half so I should be livin pretty well after that . I'm thinking maybe a BMW Z4... I'll have to make some track days on the XB12 before that just to make sure I learn the track for the Beamer . |

I'm in the job market too. I took a 33% pay cut last August and will probably be unemployed in early 2004. I had an interview on Tuesday and found out today I didn't get the job. I got home and had an email about another job and now I have an interview tomorrow. Searching for a new job is like being a manic depressive. Sometimes the future looks bad and then there's hope, then it's bad and then there's hope again! It's crazy! |

Hold on here. I read your bio and you haven't even grown into a full grown twerp yet. You're a twerpling and that is way too much money for you. You'll only blow it on fast bikes and women! (...God, I want to be young with as bright of future.) Hey, if it don't happen yet, it will, you must be doing something right to even get a look. Best of luck with creating your opportunities. |
