niiiice. (and I think your profile "favorite quote" should be "if it ain't broke..fix it till it is" ) Good score on the S1. '97? Or '96? Can't tell if that's a Nissin or PM front caliper... |

It's a PM caliper, so I'm gonna guess '97. |

Also, didn't they switch to aluminum shifters in '98? Or was that only in '99? Cuz the one pictured is steel. (Message edited by phelan on January 18, 2012) |

OK guys. It's a '96, 9000 miles, buying it from the original owner. This S1 found me, and when I heard there was someone else interested in coming out to look at it for a chopper project, I stuck my neck out financially and bought it, would hate to see another one of these early beauties becoming someone's fashion accessory at the local poser nite!! Guy bought it new, did an endo on it at some point which explains the lack of fairing and mirrors, and decided after four years that it was too uncomfortable for him to ride. It sat in his garage for two years, then spent the next 10 years in a barn! Finally decided to make some room and give it up, and that's when it found me. It has a lot of crud and corrosion on it, gonna need a lot of lovin' and cleaning to get it back right. Supposed to go pick it up this weekend, he's digging around to see what parts he has laying around, thinks he still has the original tire hugger and some other assorted stuff. He did give me a box which has a brand new tail section and windscreen that he ordered after his endo and never put on, too bad he didn't order the fender and tank too, I'd be all set! As far as chopper? No way! She's gonna see her glory days return eventually, this will be a labor of love, as I miss my '98 S1 terribly. Don't know much about the difference in calipers, I do know that it's different than the one that was on my '98, and it has the pegasus cast into it. Wish me luck guys, I'll keep you posted with more pics after I pick her up! |

If it's chunkier/blockier than the one on your '98, and has a Pegasus...it's a PM caliper. Ger a rebuild kit or two now, while you still can. They're easy to rebuild and kits are still out there, but they're getting scarce last I checked. Excellent score. Glad to hear it will live again! |

But my totally personal preference, Hog: I like the wheels and frame on your new project better than the PM. The yellow will sing on that bike once it's all cleaned up. |

I saw my 1st one on a Buell event in Oregon in '97, maybe '98.....there were over 100 Buells there and the Nuke yellow stood out over all of them. Great find!!! |

Dude, it's still got the WP shock, sweet! Gonna look super sharp, are you going to do a full restoration? Please don't hack up the stock sub fender, if you are tempted to chop it call me and we'll work some sort of trade, I need one in good condition for a project. |

No intention to hack the rear fender (if the PO ever finds it), I kinda like the way they look because everybody seems to take them off! I've been going back and forth between a full resto and just cleaning her up the best I can for now, and getting some use out of her. I'd hate to see her go the way of Mad Max, laying around the garage in pieces with no time to put her back together. I might just save the resto for down the road when it looks like I'll have some time to do it, work doesn't leave me that option right now, I'm lucky just to find some riding time! |

I also like the stock hugger - it adds to the unique character that is S1

Dutch, you should still ask Ronnie to fab you an AST with the spring painted white, so it looks like stock, but performs. |

Fahren I'm going to use only oem buell parts on my s1w. Ast is a perfect shock, ronnie build one for my x1.can recommend a ast to every buell owner. I will first get all the parts together before i put them on the s1.think it will take some time to find everything ( at a normal price ). |
