Hi all, it has been quite a while since I have been in the saddle and found another tuber. I have owned several Buells, all tubers but 1 XB. I recently found a '99 X1 with just under 10K on the clock. Its all black body, frame, and wheels.....all original except the classic V&H SS2R slip on underneath. Got a reasonable price on it but I am having hesitations to buy it because of lack of available parts. Also already have an ECMspy but never used since its above me!! Please let me know what it is worth and your opinion to buy or not buy!! My heart says "Hell YES" but I just don't know!!! Help a brother decide, guys & girls. Appreciate it. |

Tone, Go for it! Well if it has all the basics in the right place. These things are very reasonable nowdays. I was recently faced with putting 1/2 the value back into my 2001 (new top end and such) . I have 4 other bikes (Kawasakis, BMW) but I still like the Buell best for "fun" riding. I seem to have a strange affliction for air cooled twins and 4s. Maybe a Guzzi next, or an S2. I wouldn't worry about the inject/ecmspy. If you can run a program and you understand how to save files and such, you'll be okay. For the most part all you really need it for is to read codes , reset the TPS, and check timing and such. You don't really need to get into loading /editing maps unless you like doing that sort of thing. IHMO a X1 with the filter, pipe and race ECM has plenty of power to get yourself into all kinds of trouble. Good luck with the decision |

I own two. '99, 13,xxx when I bought it, cost me $4000. Race ECM, Forcewinder, V&H, Penske shock, bar end mirrors. Riding out to WA on it this summer. '00, 10,xxx when I bought it, cost me $3350. All stock. Replaced shock with another stocker, ETS, and O2 replaced. Rode it out to Philly last summer. I'd buy more, no hesitation! American Sport Bike has alot of what you'll need for maintenance. I took collision off both as I can park it and wait for body parts to materialize if/when wreck. |

Lots of parts shared with other HD's. the only negative I heard this year was MMI isn't training the new mechanics on the old tubers anymore, this information came from a recent graduate of MMI in Florida. MMI is still training students on the XB's. Get it ride it and make all of the XB riders want one when you pull up! |

I havn't had a problem with parts yet. Yes I know I started a thread about Castalloy wheels that isn't a problem yet and won't be for years. One nice thing about fuel injected tubers is if the fuel system becomes impossible to maintain a carb can be installed that is not an option on a XB. Most other wear items are Sportster parts or were used on other bikes. |

In Minnesota I just bought two 00 M2s. The first has 15,000 and in a condition I would call fair. I paid $2400. In hind sight that might have been a little high. Maybe $1800 - $1900 would have been better. The second has 3,200 miles and is in a condition that I would call excellent or almost like new status. I paid $3200 for it. I would call this one a sweet deal. Is that helpful? |

go to motorcycle consumer news on the web click on Used bike price list and search for your tuber this is a fair price list of bikes listed in good condition. |

Q: Should I buy another X1? A: Only if you want a unique, fun to ride, modern classic that you can buy for about half what it should really be worth. I can't think of a single reason why not. |

Very helpful indeed guys. I am paying more for the X1 then you did on the first M2, Buzzer. They seem to be going for more in my neck of the woods. |

I have checked (as I have 2 S2s) and parts for the tubers are still very much available. Don't let people spinning 'tall tails' of obsolete parts stop you from getting a nice bike. |

Thanks again for the input guys. I made the 2 hour trip this morning and found what I can proudly say is "the cleanest, most well kept" bike I have ever seen. My dad went with me and agreed that it looked like it could have been new!! This thing is a beauty, I am absolutely floating today. Can't wait to see clear weather, or should I say "bad weather" Badweb Bros. I am back!!!!! Here is a quick peek of the beast........
If anyone has ECMSPY race maps please share with me. I have the SSR2 muffler on it and am going to throw a K&N filter in it as well. Thanks! |

Is it inappropriate to ask you to post what you paid for it? |

Yes, all black...... the perfect color. I asked him about the pipes and rims, since they looked like they were damn near new. He said that they were the originals. I asked about the pipe and he said that he hand cleaned/ polished it every time he put it away. He really took care of it, not even any corrosion on bolt heads. 9640 original miles on the odometer. As for price, lets just say that for the same money I probably could have bought one of the many XB's for sale in my area....... which is exactly why I snatched up this bad boy!! I love tubers! |
