New to this site not new to Buell's. Was doing 50 mpg on older S3t and now doing 34 on just about new xb12xp. What Up? Any ideas other then saying what does it matter cause its the nature of the beast? Just curious here.. | ||

My XB12XP is returning c42 MPG w/just over 20K miles on the clock. It goes a bit further per gallon on extended trips. Chris C | ||

They do get better mpgs in time. The X has close to 13K on it now and is currently getting better gas mileage than the XT. I'd guess they both get on average between 45 and 50 with a mix of highway and in town miles. Best I've gotten on the xt was over 60 mpgs, fully loaded at I 75 speeds with summer blend gas. That was awesome!!! | ||

I typically get 50s out of my tubers, and 40s out of my UlyX. Although now ('06 with 23k miles) it is definitely loosening up, so to speak. I have a stock motor, stock exhaust, K&N, and EBR computer... One thing I've noticed is, the more HP a twin makes, the more it drinks. Could be VE of the engine...could be the grin factor connected to the right wrist continually twisting. I dunno. But, while my tubers get in the 50s and my XB is in the 40s...my 1125 is usually in the 30s. And I'm fine with all of it  | ||

My Uly gets 40-43 mph. Not near the cherry picking, bad math, numbers some like to 'claim' but okay! I'd certainly like to be getting 45+!! (Message edited by buellerxt on January 08, 2012) | ||

My 2008 XB12X gets low 40's pretty predictably. And yes my X1 is still getting low 50's I think that it's just that the ulys are taller and push more air out of the way. My friend's XB12S would get 50-60 MPG on the same rides as my X1 was getting 52. But yes! my XB12X was getting 32 MPG when I first got it! | ||

I just ran my first 2 tanks with my new to me XB12XT, 38 and 39 mpg. Always got a steady 45 with my S3T. | ||

I think that it's just that the ulys are taller and push more air out of the way. Airframe drag is a factor. Typically if I pull my side bags off, I net an additional 2-3 MPG. Still worth it to me though. | ||

I consistently get high 40s with my XT. I've been trying to keep the Rs above 3000 this tank. We will see. | ||

40-45 mpg on my '08 XT riding single 75-80 mph cruise. A bit better on the back roads. I get 50+ riding 2 up at a pace that doesn't earn me kidney jabs.... | ||

I also get 40-45 with my 07-x and have also learned that kidney jabs tend to increase my mileage by about 10 mpg! | ||

No expert here but isn't the Uly in a higher state of tune then the ST? | ||

My 06 Uly after about 15k or so was getting about 48-50 mpg regularly with around the town riding and higher on the highway. My 2010 XP at 4k has yet to see 50 mpg ever. It may be that the more elevated idle pattern and the cooler running (right side scoop) means that the breakin period will be longer. Or it could be the bags are elevating wind drag but I have not seen a lot of comments indicating that the bags drop the mpg performance. | ||

It will get much better as time goes by. Mine 09xt has been that way. Started getting good mileage at about 20K, doing better than ever at 30K now. You should clime into the mid 40's at some point. | ||

It is possible you have one of the few "do not ride well, do less than 60mpg, 20k mile tyre set or make you a Java" but I do not think so. They all make good coffee and XPs have them things with the holes. | ||

Elevation and type of gas make huge differences, that's why it's hard to compare. Wind direction is also a factor. At high elevation your mileage will be higher. Getting real gas, and not the corn fed crap I'm stuck with, will also give you higher mileage. At Homecoming I filled up with real gas and got 50 MPG during my stay. I hit Illinois and filled up with corn and lost 8 MPG!! I hate this crap!  | ||

I get low to mid 40s on my 2010 XT with 13,000 miles on it. Brand new I got high (like 39) to low 40s. So, it has improved some. I'd love to get better, but not if it means changing my riding habits. | ||

+2 on ethanol being TERRIBLE! Hate it. The bikes run much better on the non-oxy stuff I can easily find on any given corner in the land of 10,000 lakes. I'd love to try living with a Zero S. Not buying any petrol ever again would make me very happy. | ||

My 06 Uly would get 50 - 60 MPG. My 10 Uly does 45 - 55 MPG. It runs better too. | ||

I very rarely get above 40mpg with my '07. (maybe once in the last 10,000 miles) They only have ethanol down here, and I weigh about 290lbs. | ||

Once you start a engine tune its mpg will go down. Bike, car or anything else its a fact of life and a Jardine can seems not be the best for this. This sort of mod needs the fueling to be right. It may be that your setup is to rich in a rev spot you use more than others and/or lean in others. Who knows. There are a Gazillion reasons/combinations. Run the bike stock, if you can for a while and see how it works out. Also mpg can be subjective IE how one person does it is not always as another does. One thing I do know is that after I fixed the subframe Grounding issues on my 06 bike the mpg went up by about 30%. And that was because that issue was causing a engine timing problem. | ||

Yes, I forgot about that Uly_man, I tuned the bike with ecmspy and megalog a while back, mostly increased the fuel map in selected areas. I like the way it runs now though, so I don't think I will go back to stock, I guess I will put up with the lower mileage for now. |
