Have put a couple hundred miles on the '08 Uly I just bought & odometer reads 2115. I just noticed a couple drops of clean oil under the swingarm oil tank, looked at the drain plug and, what the heck, it's backed out of the drain hole about 3 turns. I finger tightened the plug and the manual says it should have loctite on it and cranked to 26-29 ft-lbs. I think the bike recently had the break-in service and am wondering if the plug was just not replaced correctly. Has anyone heard of a plug vibrating loose??? |

Yup. That's why you're supposed to put thread sealer on it. Same goes for primary drain plug. |

Thanks, Ulynut! Will definitely check the primary plug too. |

Ripstop, whatever you do don't use 26-29 ft-lbs of torque. There are literally dozens of posts of folk who have stripped their drain plugs using the torque in the manual. Just do it up 'snug' by hand - the primary drain plug should be tightened the same way. It has has a wider range for torque setting in the manual (14-30 ft-lbs) but again you don't want to go anywhere near the 30 ft-lbs. |
