so months have gone by. it is still off. the last few months, the with the clutch pulled in it would slightly be wanting to go. i did 6 or so clutch adjustments. i have now pulled the clutch, it checks ok. double checked by a local shop S&G Cycles. he said he has seen problems with the bearing and side movement not releasing the clutch. mine has none. |

Uh, thats 'normal'. Harley, especially Sportster clutches, will not roll in gear with the clutch pulled in, engine off, especially when cold (and definitely if its been sitting awhile). Dont base your clutch adjustment on this as you'll spend forever trying to get it to 'work' that way. Get the all the clutch adjustments right and then see if you have a problem with the engine running. If you still have a problem (depending on what it is) then look for trouble. As it sounds to me, you're trying to fix something that probably aint broke! |

ok. thanks. i thought it rolled in gear with the clutch in. what do you think about the clutch in and it slightly moving? i will reassemble and try to adjust it. |

It may slightly move with the clutch in, it may roll easily, it may drag the rear wheel around the garage. Go with how the adjustments are when its running. Make sure the chain isnt too tight. Generally, if you have worn or broken parts, you'll experience grabbing or a clutch that goes in and out of adjustment. Worn clutch plates will slip and they'll slip if there isnt enough freeplay. Go with how it feels running. |

With a PROPERLY ADJUSTED PRIMARY CHAIN/CLUTCH, neutral can easily be found and the bike will roll in low gear when cold with the clutch pulled !!! Iam Noone' |
