Is that a custom picture on the timing cover? Damn good looking bike. I second the mirror change. That can be swapped back in five minutes. |

Very nice bike, I love the high voltage yellow S1's. The brake lever looks original, and the foot peg looks original but with a missing rubber cover. Other missing / changes / deletions that I see are: battery relocation update, updated rear isolators and an updated front plastic pulley cover necessary to clear the updated isolators, missing heat shield on the rear pipe, missing plastic heat shield by the rear cylinder, first generation updated rear shock, and a missing seat strap. |

The upper belt guard is part of the hugger/plate mount on an S1. Timing cover is OEM. Brake lever is OEM. Peg looks like a Buell "race" setup - cross-hatched unfinished aluminum. But it could very well be a stock peg without the rubber. I believe the six-button front rotor is also an update. Very nice motorcycle though. Love the Ulysses D616F front tire! |

I remember when those S1's first came out the rear hugger turned me off so much I couldn't see the rest of the bike. Hey I'm not a sculpture I don't see the art inside the rock. Now that i've seen them without I can appreciate how truly beautiful they are. |

What Tim said... I sold my S1's this summer because I just couldn't ride them any distance in comfort, but I think I'll hang on to all the good friends I've made in the Buell world, though. rt |

"I just couldn't ride them any distance in comfort" Take aleve before you leave and a few stiff drinks when you arrive. Problem solved! They look great stock or stripped! |

Good advice, Dean! Since I've entered my twilight years, I think I'll stick to my S2 and my Road Pig, though... rt |

"S1 got me into the Buell bikes! and let me meet a great bunch of people too!!!" Me too. I've never owned one, but it's the bike that made me save my pennies and eventually get my X1. |

Dutch x1 I know where there is a black 96 S1 never titled with no miles for sale. It might have a few of the recalls done to it. It was not cheap. If I remember correctly about $8500 USD. |

The yellow S1 parked outside CityBike's office in San Francisco (about a block & 1/2 from my then office) got me absolutely hooked. I had to get me a Buell. (Took a while...) |

Rkc00 Think i'd rather go for a buell with some miles on it. 96 with no miles on it sounds great, but with a buells reputation i believe it's better to buy a buell that has been driven and maintained Bought my 99 x1 with 5500 miles on it. The x1 was in showroom condition and had been stored for over 7years.had to replace a lot of gaskets, after driving it only 2500 miles |

I've owned two snap red S1's, but my buddy's yellow '96 was the best looking S1 I've ever seen. I like the yellow better than the nuke blue and molten orange.

Still have mine. Ten years and counting as a daily commuter. Not very stock, tho...most of the stock parts went the way of fleabay, back when more private sellers than shops were selling stuff. |

I loved the short, slim tail section combined with the extended hugger/plate mount. I'm still trying to get to my S1 fender project, I am going to make a one off extended fender to fit my 99+ swingarm... eventually. So I was actually turned on to Buell by the original S1's styling, though the test ride on the 98 S1W and M2 got me set on an M2 in a hurry. That said I'd still love to get a stock S1 or S1W some day. Beautiful bikes in the photos above. |
