im curious because i need to replace a primary cover on my wifes 06 (if you got one for a good price LMK!) but all the ones ive seen for sale that are the 06+ are wrinkle black... hers are magnesium colored. i know the bike went down before i bought it used from the PO and im wondering if maybe he changed them to magnesium, which would also mean something in the primary had to be changed to use an older cover? so then im wondering if im all set to use an older cover? im so confused.... |

For the 06 and later XB's you can use the 06+ primary covers (with old style oil pump) the only difference between newer and the older covers is that the older ones have a smaller shifting shaft hole than the newer ones. 04/05 = older covers 06 and later = newer covers (but you already know that) there are 06 and later covers in magnesium ,but also in black if the cam cover is magnesium colored ,so the primary cover is in the most cases the same color, |

9's came with black engine accent colors on the timing, primary cover and chin fairing center piece and 12's came with magnesium. ... until the last years, when they realized that everybody had been switching to the black ones. changes in the bolt pattern/count between years differentiate and make them not interchangeable |
