So I pulled my top en completely off to replace a blown head gasket. upon removing the cylinders from the piston I discovered score marks at the base on the jug. they are too deep to sand off. anyone tried RTV or anything of this nature to "fill in the cracks" when used in conjunction with the proper gasket? I need this to last a while until I can save up for new jugs and pistons/rings. thoughts? |

perhaps using a soft sealer ( like silastic ) I would not attempt to remove metal to "fix this", it should not be much of an issue except around the drain hole at the back of the cylinder where oil retruns to crankcase .. |

You can use 3Bond 1194 on the cylinder base. It will alter the squish but on a totally stock motor it won't make it too tight. It should be checked anyway. |

Not sure why there would be deep score marks on a totally stock motor, though. Regarding Bluzm2 notes on the squish, you may find it useful to measure the squish clearance so you can get the best base gasket thickness for your build. Check out here. The article also mentions using Three-Bond 1104 sealant - not sure if that's the same as what was mentioned above. |

The outside of the cylinder sleeve is not a sealing surface; only the bottom edge of the cylinder that actually contacts the base gasket actually seals. Any photos? I've always had good luck giving gaskets a light coat of Permatex. That's a LIGHT coat - heavy coats tend to "bleed" when they heat up, making a mess. |

Fahren, 1194 replaced 1104. Something about reformulating and removing the lead. Also, what Jim said. Yamabond is da Bomb. Jim, you use #4? |
