When we get into the snow-ice-salt season here in east central Indiana ... soon I'm afraid ... I have an idea for a winter project. Ever since I bought the Blast! I've thought I'd like an aluminum framework to bolt underneath the rear seat area ... attached to the four washer like lugs ... to support a set of saddlebags. I have saddlebags on the bike and don't like the way they bow inward when loaded ... I'd like them to be held apart so that they remain more vertical. I envision a welded aluminum framework of small diameter tubing.

Something like this ...

Has anybody ever made one of these expressly for the Blast! ???

Same idea ... but I'd like mine to be somewhat narrower and "prettier" ... less home-made looking.

Aluminum ... no rusting.

PVC does rust either! I think painted black no one would even notice them unless you had the bags off.

You could just buy a set of those saddlebag supports and modify them (oxy/acetelene). I would drill the holes through the rear frame as I think the "four washer like lugs" will bend too easy. OR link them together (side to side) with some threaded or tapped rod for support, that might work just as well. Those four bungee hooks are sturdy, but they bend easy. So as long as the load is hanging off them you should be okay. (I've hung an exhaust off them without a problem).

Those supports are a great idea though. A used crappy looking set should be easy to find and modify.

A quick e-bay search turned a bunch up in the $15-$30 range new.
