Yes it is. And, they added some pictures.

Thats really cool, but how does it work?

I'm guessing it is effectively a centrifugal pump... so it captures oil inside the stator bell, and pumps it out, probably thereby causing a vaccum, thereby pulling more coolant in. But maybe not. I'm a hack when it comes to mechanical engineering.

Anybody point the Bombadier / Aprilla guys to this yet? I can hear the sounds of drills already... : )

Reep - at first I wondered where the spit hole was getting it's oil supply until I found a picture in the service manual. Appears the crank is cross drilled there already on top of the large male spline. In the 2008 manual it's at the top of page 7-18. Not sure what it's original intended purpose was...

Ahhh! I have Tuber/XB brain damage. I assumed the 1125's ran separate oil for the tranny like the air cooled bikes.

I'm guessing this isn't the case, and the crank must already have an oil passage under pressure. Interesting. So Rotax must have plumbed for part of this problem years ago, but not implemented it. Or maybe Buell / Harley didn't think it was needed for the 1125 application (which apparently it wasn't until the stator output got cranked up). Probably the latter.

So that leaves me with two pretty harsh sounding questions..

Why the &*&^ did Harley not fix this problem sooner knowing there is a ^&^&*&^ pressurized oil line already coming out the crank where the stator bell attaches. How stupid are they?

Why the &*&^ did all the 1125 owners, a few of which apparently with infinite time and bandwidth to whine and moan about burnt stators, not realize there is a hole dripping oil in their crankshaft, and wondering if it might be part of a solution? Especially after anony hints along those lines?

Probably more to the story, it couldn't have been this simple.

Sorry for the attitude. I'm in a mood today. : (

Sprint, I'm guessing it is just as suitable if not more so than the '08 system.
Remember, everything that is sold on the aftermarket is "not for street use" per the hoards of law school grads flooding the market every year....

Can't wait for mine, it's on the truck and should be here tomorrow!

Reep - that male spline looks to be concaved a bit - as in maybe it was intended to supply a small amount of oil to the sprag clutch or something. I have an 08 so didn't have a need to root around in there to see what was what.

As far as HD goes, it was probably cheaper to go the harness/stator route than it was to go stator/rotor. Damn bean counters.

So who's going to be the brave soul that tries that mod on a 2009 rotor?
Maybe that alone will be enough to save most stators ?

Don't get too excited, folks. I just got my kit from EBR, literally 10 minutes off the brown truck, no oil hole/jet. I'm not that concerned as long as the stator doesn't burn up, but is was a little bit of a buzzkill as I went immediately looking for the jet.

How about any of the rest of you that have received the kit?

Benzo,
Got mine Wednesday afternoon. No oil jet.
Left voice mails and sent emails. Waiting for reply.
Told them I would be happy to return rotor in new, unused condition in exchage for machined part, per their site ad. I really don't mind waiting. It is gonna snow here tomorrow night. If I am doing this upgrade, I do want to get all the technology that is on the table though.

'Rash - precisely. Let me know what you hear. I'm not about to throw a fit and start some public feud with EBR by any means. I am very pleased that they worked out some sort of hook-up for us. But if I can get the tech, I'm willing to go the extra mile to get it.

Hmm, I'm wondering about the oil jet prepared parts too. EBR changed the web page for the Reduced Output Low Heat Alternator Kit and only has 4 view pics and not the 2 close-up views with the oil jet mod now.

Benzo,
I look @ it this way...I was thinking I'd have to pay a ton for HD priced '08 parts to do the conversion anyway. (I was not amped about used electical stuff, although I recogize the savings, if money is tight.)
EBR stepped-up & gave us a solution @ about half the price of new HD parts. If the oil jet thing isn't working out for whatever reason, then I am confident in EBR that it will still work fine! Look what their ECM did for our bikes. Nothing but grateful here.

"And there are two new pictures, showing that orifice."

Where did you guys find those two new pictures?

As soon as they got quoted in this thread, I went to the EBR site for a closer look ... and they weren't there. The only thing that I've ever seen for this product are the 4 original photos that don't show any new oiling ports. Did they put these photos up on the EBR site and then immediately pull them down?

I have to admit, if I saw these photos with the new and improved oiling ports in the ad that presented the new parts, and I jumped to be the first kid on my block to buy the kit, I'd be hopping-mad if the goods that got delivered didn't have the additional machine work they were represented to have.

It's a great thing for EBR to dramatically reduce the price on 2008-style parts (compared to buying them from HD), but it's not so great to advertise something and then deliver something else. That sort of takes the appeal out of the new product, now doesn't it?

I hope you guys get taken care of. Please let us know.

The same parts from HD will cost you $1382.53 (after 20% discount). from online dealer. That's $500 more than EBR. But you don't really need to buy a cover, as it's the same part number.
So the total price from HD will be $1223.63, which is still $330 more than EBR.

Thanks Yugi -- I understand the math -- the price difference is obvious enough to anyone who has read the threads in this forum and can subtract.

But I think you missed my point. It's not about $500 or $600. It's about what EBR was supposedly advertising about improved oiling, and whether or not EBR is actually delivering what they promised in their ads.

What I'm trying to determine is where those pictures came from, and what EBR is/was advertising then/now, and how that compares to what they're actually delivering right now. Some of their claims seem to have been retracted with the disappearance of the photos. Two actual customers report that the product EBR is actually delivering doesn't offer any oiling improvements that were at least temporarily featured in the ads. That's a HUGE disappointment.

Since you're the guy who posted the original photos, I was hoping you would help to answer that question about what they were advertising and where you found the photos.

I'm as excited about this "solution" as everyone else, so I looked on the EBR site to learn more. Unfortunately, those photos are now not anywhere to be found, and the goods they are delivering don't offer the mythical oiling upgrade. How disappointing.

I understand that the price is lower, and that from EBR you can buy the rotor/stator plus a "free" cover for less than the price of the rotor/stator without the cover from HD.

Sure, saving $500 is great, but that means nothing to me. I don't particularly want a 2008 rotor/stator, but I would like to adapt an improved oiling system design to a rotor/stator that gets too hot while producing reliable/useful voltage and current output. (Read: 2009.)

The real excitement in this deal revolved around (pun!) the oiling upgrade, which doesn't seem to have panned out (another pun!) for the people who put up their money and took their chances. That's disappointing to me. And probably to a lot of other people as well.

It will be interesting to learn more.

Bandit,
Actually, I ponied-up my order before the oil hole pics posted. The text in the ad still talks about the cooling orifice, so maybe a few pieces got shipped out before that was added.
I agree that it would be cool if you could send your '09 rotor in for machining the hole. That is the only way I see a low cost solution there.
But, we don't know if the oil would provide enough cooling to make the higher output stators bullet proof. I kinda have my doubts about that. It seems like a very small amount of additional oil. Time will certainly tell.
Thanks again to EBR for everything they are doing to make our bikes even more enjoyable!

I've got those photos from EBR website. After they added the phrase about the orifice, 2 additional photos appeared. Now I see that the stator color also changed to blue. Before it was the same as 2008 stator.
I personally don't care whether there is an orifice, or not, as far as doesn't break. You're basically getting 2008 setup for less money. What are you whining about?
I will try to get the dealer install me 2008 parts. There are 7 Buell dealers around here, so I'll try all of them. If they refuse, I will buy an EBR setup and install it.

Roadrash, if there is an improved oiling system, I hope that there is a way for you to get it. I would be disappointed if I just ponied-up the $$$ for the last of the old-style rotors that doesn't have the improved oiling system. In that case, I'd be trying to negotiate an exchange, or some machining services for my old-style rotor. I hope things work out for you. Please keep us informed.

"What are you whining about?"

It's funny that I'm getting accused of being a whiner. Notice that I'm one of the guys who has never cried out about not getting the love from H-D. I just asked for the facts about the EBR oiling upgrade, which seems to be vaporware right now. I just want the facts so that I can make an informed decision.

I'm not convinced that a 2008-style charging system is the right answer. Right now it looks like the real answer for 2009 bikes is a series voltage regulator or a switching voltage regulator. Instead of looking for ways to use oiling to dissipate the excessive heat that's generated by a shunt regulator, it would be better not to use a shunt regulator at all! Better to use a series regulator or a switching regulator and not generate the excess heat in the first place.

You can try that, but it won't help you. People here tried already, still got stator burned.
