Hello, remember me.....well i just got a vance and hines exhaust for the blast, with the outerwears filter set up on the intake just like ez. I purchased a dynojet kit for the blast some time ago and thought since I dont have a 175 jet I might as well use the Dyno jet kit. I installed the emulsion tube and the 175 jet supplied in the kit into the carb with a stock 45 low speed jet, and left the needle stock but shimmed correctly. Well I took it out for the first time today and the power is great but I have a couple questions. #1 I have a nice dead spot over 3/4 to wot no matter what speed. Im thinking of going to a HD 175 with stock emulsion tube, or even a 180,im not getting any lean popping on decel.....what you guys think? #2 When I let off the throttle part way while going highway speeds it really dips the bike....and kills the throttle pretty abrupty....is that normal? #3 The header is all blue and brown....V&H say its normal...any way around that? Sorry its so long, wanted to be precise. Thanks (Message edited by bag.91 on November 09, 2011) |

That kit is no good, really - and stock jet is 42 need to go at least 45, if not 48 - and use HD jets 175 or 180. EZ |

which would be better 175 or 180? and what would the differences be? (Message edited by bag.91 on November 09, 2011) |

Concur with EZ! 180 is a little richer than a 175. Neither is better, depends on your bike and the difference is minimal. Shimming the needle will make more of a difference than the difference between a 175 & 180 jet. Exhaust is 'normal'. Paint it, wrap it, coat it (inside or out), or obsessively polish it (very regularly) if you dont want it to turn different colours. |

PS Slow jets come in 42,44,45,46,48 in order of lean to rich. You wont need bigger than a 48 except in special instances. Start w a 45. |

Pick up the 45 too (its stock on many HD's). The 48 can be overkill (imho) and the 46 can be hard to find (but not impossible). |

So I put in the hd 48/ with the hd emulsion tube and hd 175 with needle shimmed and 2 3/4 out on screw. This thing has torque up the wazoo compared to before and the V&H makes it sound huge!. The only thing is, at 0 to half throttle there is alot of torque that I can feel....but at 3/4 to full throttle the torque jump feel isnt as drastic. I think this would be somewhat normal for our under hp and high torque bikes but wanted to double check. is that normal? |

- Yes you need more hp to feel more torque - lol EZ |

Crap ha ha.....well thats what I figured. It funny because the lower end torque boost was very impressive, then, just when I think the bike is gonna blast off into a rocket of torque BAM ....low hp. Well i think Im good then, love the bike more everyday....im never gonna sell this thing!!! Thanks again for the jetting tips....bike feels perfect |

And by the way i ride with harleys and big v twins and always got a funny reaction when i keep up with them and was even faster than some...cant wait to try it now with all the new found torque. Besides the 100 hp race bikes i can keep up with quite a few bikes.....thats the part I like. |

So....just got a denso iridium spark plug (IXU01-27) I remember reading no pregap needed....well I placed it in. It started fine and got on the freeway and it started misfiring around 65 and worse over. Got home and was a little confused because this problem wasnt with the old plug. I took the denso plug out, checked the gap and it was WAY off....like around .024in. So CAREFULLY re gapped it to specs in Buell blast manual...havent checked results yet but has anyone else had this problem? |

Its common with spark plugs and you should always check the gap, BUT is this the special racing plug that cant/shouldnt be gapped (it doesnt look like a normal plug)? I believe it comes gapped at .024" If it has a screw in tip make sure its tight with Loctite. Make sure the wire didnt come apart and also that it fits tightly on the nipple. |

It is the racing plug, I also. Put locktite on the screw tip. The electrode is still there and everything fits perfectly. You guys run with the.24 gap? I gapped to specs.... Hope I didn't screw anything up. Bike runs fine |

Yup - been running that gap for years, on several Blasts, and plan for those same plugs to find their way into my CR as well - they are gapped that way to keep them in a certain heat range. What happened to you sounds like a loose plug wire, or damaged wire. EZ |

Should I Shrink the gap back to .024 or leave it where it is? |

I have no idea how you made that gap larger - yes - I would fix it. EZ |

So tried a couple of things....put the old plug back in....no misfiring, put the denso back on after regapping to original specs....light but not nearly as bad as before misfiring. The only thing that I can think of is I put anti seize on the plug before I put it in. Would this be melting and running down the threads and screwing up the spark? |

hmm - a new wire would be next on my list - you did not cover the top part of the solenoid screw with lock-tight, just the base area or install it with still wet lock-tight? - right? EZ |

Well I'm giving up on this plug..... Checked the spark plug wire with ohm meter...... Within spec. Going back to copper!! This was a waste of 30 bucks!! But bikes running fine with good old fashion copper. |

LOL - that was an expensive gaff on your part - I'm sure! Too many others run this plug with no problem, including XBs and 1125s - really - don't blame it on the plug - lol EZ |

I know lol, Trying one more thing. I just took the plug out and took off the spark plug cap and it was coated with locktite pretty much along all the threads. (wont say who did that)DANGET....so I cleaned the locktite off of the terminal and cap that goes on the terminal. I will try it tonight....but definately think this was the problem. Under load at high rpm too much resistance to keep up. Thanks EZ for all replies and advice. But if ths doesnt fix it...im gonna take the plug and throw it in the street where it can get destroyed. |

Make sure the plug wire is tight on the plug as well - that was the culprit on all my plug problems. EZ |

Ok so I took the bike out this morning and the misfire was still there.....it’s like its getting spark....just not that strong of one. Anyways I was looking at the plug wire and it wasn’t that tight around the plug. I compared it to the screaming eagle plug I had in previously and noticed that it squeezed it pretty good. The porcelain is a different size, larger on the screaming eagle plug, so I think that’s why it wasn’t happening on the old plug. I just installed a new wire and what a difference.....it really grabs onto the plug tight! Might try it tonight....well see. Traffic is crazy right now. Wouldn’t be able to get even to 70mph! |

Are the symptoms that I Describe the same as yours when it comes to a spark plug wire not being tight on the spark plug? |

Yeah - you would get skips and pops, lose power, then regain - frustrating - EZ |

So....I just went up to mt hamilton today and it was great with no misfire at any speed. But now when I was on my way home my idle was higher than normal. Im 90% sure I need a new boot......so thats next on the list. That plug really makes a difference, this bike really pulls. Even at high speed it moves decent.... Im very pleased with these mods, especially this plug Thanks EZ, hopefully this will be the last misfire issue.... (Message edited by bag.91 on November 25, 2011) |
