"Is there is a way to confirm these assumptions (and to obtain wattage figures for the new kit) through back channels?" Send an email to Erik at EB R and get a direct answer? Wouldn't hurt. And yes, Kudos to Erik for stepping up and doing the right thing! He's the MAN |

quote:I suspect the reason there is a new outer cover included in the kit is that it likely has improved oil passages around the stator and consequently improved cooling. Total conjecture on my part. It'd be great to see side by side pictures to compare.
My dealer also removed the fins from inside the cover to improve oil circulation, when they changed the stator last time. Will see how it works now. |

Well, The description of the part states that it is a racing part. It mentions "....unnecessary heat load in the oil at high RPMs." Didn't someone mention running at 60 (?) mph in sixth gear the other day on this forum? Will it fix our bad riding habits? When a voltage regulator fails, will we blame it on the stator? When we lug the engine with a barely charged battery, will we call that a stator failure? You know....when the battery light come on? On this forum, that is a sure sign of stator failure! I personally don't know why Erik bothers. The first one of these that somebody installs incorrectly will yield enough wailing to put the book of Revelation to shame. The man must be a saint. |

What is the history of the switch to the '09-'10 system? It was my understanding that Rotax spec'd the '08 system, and Buell changed it in '09. I guess I'm just happy we have a fix. I'll be anxiously waiting my EBR system's arrival next week. |

Rotax built it. HARLEY changed it in '09. People were (and still are) riding them at low RPM, like an aircooled twin, which didn't spin the stator fast enough to recharge the battery. HD's kneejerk reaction was "up the output". But without any packaging changes (physical size, oil cooling, etc), it was too much heat in too small a package. Riding habits, plain and simple. Ride an 1125 at XB engine speeds, and you cook it. Period. End of discussion. Don't look at the NUMBERS on the tach (4000, 5000, etc). Look at WHERE in the RPM spread you are. Ride it in the middle, just like you do an XB or a Harley. On an aircooled engine, the "middle" is 2500-3500 and the engine is happy. On an 1125, the "middle" is 4500-6000, and it will be perfectly happy there. Remember - the 1125 is like Spinal Tap - "these go to eleven". (Message edited by ratbuell on November 06, 2011) |

Yes, and at the bottom of that rpm range in 6th gear, you're doing 80 mph. 6k rpm is up over 100 mph. I like doing it, but eventually I'll get a ticket. |

I had an SV1000S. It ran just fine on highway at 65 MPH in 6th gear. The 1125R was sold as a street bike, not a race bike. If there was really a specific way you had to ride it, I guess I missed that in the owner's manual. After I put the EBR kit on, I intend to ride it the same way as I do now. For me, that means riding it for fun, and sometimes pointing it someplace 500 miles away. I totally agree it is more fun to wind it up in every gear and haul ass. But, for me, the time and place for that is a track day. The insurance companies love it when we get speeding tickets, because it increases their profits! I won't give them any more of my $ than they already squeeze out of my pocket! |

+1 Ratbuell! Obviously, riding the machine efficiently does not mean you have to ride at 170 MPH. You have a six speed gear box for a reason. You don't have to shift through all six gears every time the light turns green. You keep your RPMs up and run the machine where it was designed to be run. -1 ratbuell Consider idling in traffic or at stop lights. That will cook the 09 stator regardless of riding style. I'm looking forward to yanking the 09 parts and the harness. |

Just got an answer on the output from the stator. Should be the same as the original 08, I think it was either 435 or 455 watts. |

Of all the road bikes out there with much higher RPM limits than the 1125s I have never heard of a single one which comes with the instruction "keep this bike's engine speed above half the max or it will continually break down" what total rubbish, please excuse me but I need to return to planet Earth. |

haha +1 welcome back to earth! keep the rpm high is no big deal, but the question for me is I pay more for gas! |

The owner's manual (for the 2008 model at least.....there is a limit to how much time I will waste on this) lists two RPMs, both above 5 grand, that the rider should not exceed during break-in. The assumption is that those RPMS may be safely exceeded following break-in. That said, there have been about a zillion threads here where owners have been told to keep RPMs above 5 grand. The owner's manuals cannot cover every situation. The manual also doesn't tell you not to urinate into the gas tank. (Message edited by black on November 06, 2011) |

I keep hearing that I have to keep the revs up when I ride and I say thats a load of bs. I ride mine like an air cooled buell almost as much as I wring it out. No problems to date. 16k on it now. The only time where it gets crabby is when im sitting in parade type traffic, which I do very little of. I think once the frame gets heat soaked, the fans are running wide open, and the stator is only on two legs, you just keep losing ground voltage and temp wise. The only thing I do is keep myself out of stop and go traffic. Luckily for me I see very little of that. |

I did 100+ miles today on my CR. RARELY did I tag 6th gear (ok, I might have when the GPS logged the 122 max...). As far as I'm concerned, there are only two gears - the RIGHT gear for the speed I'm running, and the WRONG one. I could care less what number it is. Although that little green light with the N in it is nice for when you hit the start button... As for idling in traffic...you could always pull a Froggy and hit the kill switch at stoplights...but in my experience (with the upgrade harness), I can literally watch the relay shut down the third leg at idle. Not only does the update read temp and load, it also reads RPM. |

The relay does not shut down the 3rd leg at idle...at idle all 3 legs are sending power to the voltage regulator |

For those that will buy this new EBR stator kit, are you planning on getting a new VR too, to complete the overhaul of the charging system? Or is the answer solely in the stator? |

Just run it in 1st gear all the time. That will handle highway speed. 2nd for passing. (Message edited by sprintst on November 06, 2011) |

Zoolander, I have the EBR kit on the way. My 2010 1125R only has 3,000 miles. (I bought it late this Summer with under 2,000 miles.) I also have an EBR ECM for my FMF pipe. I am going to hook the new system up with the stock VR, but might put a MOSFET R/R on later. I don't recall many of the '08 owners having problems with the stock VR, but if they did, I'm sure they'll post up. |

It appears to be the same as the 08 visually. Dean said he was told by EBR it is the same output as the 08. The kit is rotor, stator and case, so something is different (new oil passage?). 08 stator/rotor will fit inside all years' covers as it's smaller than the 09/10 S/R pair. I have 27+k miles on Loretta, an 08 built in the first week of production. Zero electrical trouble. I also ride her like an XB, often cruising 2k-2500 rpm. I idle in 2nd thru my neighborhood at 12 mph. just a data point Z |

Samg, You are incorrect. The whole purpose of the harness is to shut down 1 leg at idle and low rpm. It will run on all 3 legs for the 1st minute or 2 while the motor is still reaching operating temp. |

My guess is that the cover comes with the package for 1 of 3 reasons: 1) it comes from Rotax as an assembly, so Erik is passing that on as is instead of disassembling for resale. 2) it may actually have different oil passages. 3) the entire thing is a take off assembly from EBR that they don't use on the 1190. Not likely but remotely possible since no one seems to know what improvements were specifically made with the 1190. |

Some people _do_ know but are not allowed to say what the improvements are. Not sure who those people are, just saying, someone knows. |

Curve, ok do this.. Let's the bike idle for 3 minutes after its warmed up. Watch the voltage and then remove the relay..if the voltage does not change you are right.. If it does.... |

Pre-harness voltage was always above 13.7 at idle and the stator eventually fried. Post harness voltage drops below 12.0 at idle and the battery won't stay fully charged. Again, looking forward to yanking the 09 parts and the harness. |

Did they just add this to the kit discription? I read this thing a hundred times. Don't remember this... "To further reduce stator temperatures, we have added an orifice that directs cooling oil at the stator. An excellent upgrade for your late model 1125!" |
