OK, I bit the bullet and purchased the bottom half of my competition weight Vanson leathers. I now want to know what everyone wears underneath them. it seems kinda gross to me to wear the same pants all the time that are so heavy and binding, when you can't wash them. I sweat alot when it gets warm. I am assuming I need something cotton? I know it needs to be thin. Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

Cotton would be really bad as it'll just get wet from sweat and cool you down. Modern synthetic fibers will wick moisture away and leave you feeling dry. There are dedicated once piece undersuits made for leathers which make getting in and out of one piece leathers very easy, or you could try using stuff made for mountaineering. Some makes even treat the fibers with a silver colloid which kills bacteria (and stops the smell) when you have to wear your grundies for days, or even weeks on end - as you do on big climbing expeditions. I wore a set for 3 weeks in the Himalayas and they didn't smell nearly as badly as the kit worn by my partner |

For track days you really should think about getting something that conforms to your skin, is light weight, and wicks moisture. I always wear a pair of under armor shorts and a T-Shirt of the same material. I purchased a bunch of the Buell shirts that are synthetic a couple of years ago and I enjoy wearing those because they dry out quickly and wick the sweat away. I would steer clear of cotton... it's hot, holds moisture and bunches up really easy. |

I like bicycle shorts under my leathers... with a shammy gives me a little extra padding too |

http://performanceundergear.netfirms.com/ PUG wear is common here and very well thought of. I wear mine for every ride the last two years and it is standing up very well. |

fieldsheer mesh undersuit does the trick for me. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/43/11448/ ITEM/Fieldsheer-Coolmax-Undersuit.aspx |

Under Armor |

The only real drawback to under armor is the carpet burns you get in a crash. In a severe crash or fire, it melts into your skin. In truth, Under Armor is a poor choice all around for motor sports because of the melt danger, but the reality is the stuff works so incredibly well it's hard to think of wearing anything else. |

Silk long underwear is by far the best thing I've found. Yeah, the ones from Land's End or LL Bean. |

Ditto to what Blake ^ said. Silk underwear is a great choice. You can find some relatively cheap silkies that holds up well at Campmor. Not quite Land's End or LL Bean, but about a third of the price. |

Blake: Silk!! FTW! In the absence of silk, I found a lightweight set of synthetic "long johns" worked almost as good, but for less money. I ended up getting that because the local Eastern Mountain Sports didn't have any silk the day I went, but suggested the lightweight synthetic (store brand). It worked so well I went back to buy a couple more sets and guess what? All gone. Oh well... Silk is great because even after a hot day of riding, you can still easily slide out of your leathers. Know what? A lot of scuba divers will wear silks under their wetsuits for the same reason... |

Also this time of year, Polartec/Polarfleece longies. Yeah, the rugburn is a beyotch... silk undies would go a long way to working but for summer. Not going to give much warming. If you're worried about cost of long underwear, you/we are in the wrong sport. |
