I'm running the DDM 35w HID's in my bike and I really like amount of light but I know it could be better. There's too much light down low and yet I still have 10% of passing cars flash their high beams at me. Has anyone tried to do a HID Projector retro-fit yet? I've seen some other bikes (like an R1 and a GSXR) with a proper HID projector retro-fitted in them and there is a big difference. Not only is the light much more even from edge to edge but your not causing so much glare to on coming traffic.
I'd probably just do the low beams but with a bi-xenon so I would have 4 "high beam" bulbs.

I've been seriously looking at these for my CR. I have HID bulbs installed but they are not focused enough for my liking. I think the ideal setup would be to install the H1 bi-xenon projectors for both headlights and rewire it so both headlights are on in both low and high beam modes.

The real issue is whether the CR's headlight enclosure is large (deep) enough to accept the projector mechanism. It looks to need about 4.5" in depth from the bulb base to the inside of the headlight cover. Does anyone have a spare CR headlight enclosure lying about for me to attempt to install the projector? I'll start a new thread and ask.

Do a search for a 1125r custom front fairing a guy just did one using a camaro projector beam I believe!

Thanks Georgehitch but I really want to keep the stock headlight housing.... although that custom fairing looked pretty cool! I think that guy has more talent than I do.

I was hoping someone had either tried to do a retrofit or at least knew the inside dimensions of the 1125R headlight housing.

I am interested in adapting the first link to work in the stock housing:

I currently have 15W + 35W HID xenons installed in both low and high beam positions, but the high beams take 2-3 seconds to illuminate. I have the selenoid operated HID xenons (9004) in my other bikes and they are great, instant transition to high beams.

My son ordered the part and is going to adapt it to his Daytona 675, I'll let you know how he adapts it to his bike.

I wonder if a piece of sheet metal could be bent to fit the fairing bracket and holes cut for the projector assembly. Adjustment screws would be necessary for defining the beam height. EBR sells a headlight cover that could be used to finish the internal installation:

If we used two bulbs and powered them with 50W ballast, it would only be 100W versus 140W stock (35W x 4), standard 35W ballast would only be 1/2 the stock load on the electrical system with superior performance.

Yo…Bub, It sounds like your thinking about make a separate housing for a bi xenon projector....right? Interesting, it's something I didn't consider; I'll have to give it some thought.

Please let me know how your son's retro-fit goes.

I just would like to know the internal dimension of the stock headlight housing before I proceed. It's just me being lazy and trying to lean from others mistakes before taking my housing apart.

I'm hoping to find projector that has a small enough diameter to fit the stock low beam housing port so that only the projector shroud would have to be trimmed to fit. My concern is that all of the projectors I've seen may have too large of a diameter even without the shroud. I guess the big risk is either having to butcher the stock housing to hold the projector or make something up to mount projector to like your considering. Having those filler panels available makes a custom housing much more of a possibility.

If I had my way, optimally, I would have solenoid operated Bi-Xenon Projectors for the low beams (so it would be low and instant on high beams) and then just continue to use my HID without projectors in the normal high beam side. The HIDs in the high beam sides work well other than the long warm up time. The beam pattern is a bit higher & wider than the projector would throw so it's additional coverage, not more lumens in the same area…
Instant ON high beam + higher wider light pattern + No additional power consumption = a win, win….win
