I'm feeling your pain, Bart. Which dealership will you go to and demand the 2008 setup? |

ouch. Didnt you just get your stator fixed ?? wow! Will they install a 2008 stator? Is it compatible? if it is compatible, why wouldnt they have done that in the first place (other than making you pay for a new one all the time helps them out.) |

My gf & I flew up to Santa Fe for breakfast... does that count? Sunday was a beautiful morning for flying! The 08 stator is a bolt-on item, with the note that you need the 08 rotor as well - the 08 & 09 stators are different sizes (or something like that). But, if you have the 08 parts, you can bolt on the 08 stator & rotor and it works fine. ... I'm really, really glad I have an 08 right now. I should hit 30k miles on it this week! |

I only got about 900 miles out of that stator. Also need the bolts for the 2008, they are longer. Talked to customer service (ha!) last night. They are adamant that the 2009 replacement stators are fine. |

Of course the person on the phone is probably reading from a script... HD's complete denial of this problem is the most frustrating part of it to me. I say we hook up their grandma to life support using only the 2009 stator to power it. |

I'm home. But not for long. I'm flying to Denver for the weekend for make-up time with the wife. On a side note, I got an email from Denise that Dave Kaminen got in a crash yesterday morning. He was on his way to work and apparently swerved to avoid something on the road? Nobody is really sure. His co-workers were also heading into work and found him unconscious on the side of the road. He's got a broken pinky, bruised right hand and knee, broken orbital bone, concussion, and can't remember anything. He's not yet oriented to time and date so they are keeping him in the hospital. Apparently, his brain is bruised. I'm going to try to see him when I'm up there Friday/Saturday. |

CJ, can you cross post the news about Dave on the CBR section? I'm definitely up for seeing him. |

Hehe, ThunderTurd has stator and VR in stock. Think this part is replaced often? Buwahahaha! Bike should be done Friday. Let's hope this one lasts longer than 1000 miles! CJ, thoughts and prayers go out to Dave and his family. |

so you are opting for yet another v/r and Stator that you know wont FIX the issue? What happened to the demand for an 08 stator? |

It has been turned over to a Lemon Law lawyer. Hardley is supposed to send a "factory" rep down to look at it. I'm not sure where they are going to find a Buell Factory rep since the "factory" doesn't exist anymore. I am not looking to replace the bike, or have them buy the bike back. I only want them to install a "proven" 2008 charging system. |

It's silly for them to argue it. The evidence is irrefutable. The 2009 charging systems fail at an astonishing rate as evidenced all over this site and others. It should cost them the same either way, right? And if they fix it with the 2008 system, it'll save them money when it doesn't come back. Then they don't have to eat those labor hours under warranty. |

I'm hoping I can get it done. It sux I have to resort to a lawyer just to get a simple repair done. But then again, it IS Hardley I am dealing with. If I am successful, I would expect many other frustrated owners using this route to get a reliable charging system installed. |

Bart, I am interested in your strategy. Since you and I last talked on the phone I decided against Lemon Law Bike Buyback because I wasn't sure in Colorado that I would get the bike back, too. That changes the financial incentive greatly. But, if you are successful in NM with getting a 2008 charging system forcefully installed I may start looking for an attorney here. |

My attorney stated that since I was looking for so little, the chances were very good, that Hardley would not contest it. typically, in Lemon Law proceedings, both parties try to find the middle ground that works for both. since I am not asking for total bike replacement, or buyback, but simply to resolve the issue with a known cure, Hardley may just give in and do the right thing. But... If they do, this will be setting a precedent, and probably open the door for future 2008 stator replacements. I am hoping for the best! |

Bart, Read this on another forum in regards to the 09+ R and CR stator issues... I just recently had a new upgrade harness, relay and VR installed, since my new battery was going dead. The old harness and regulator burned up. My bike was upgraded with a new stator and harness about 6 months ago. Evidently, the upgrades are not working and are experiencing a high failure rate. The dealer called me last night to inform me that HD found the problem. The upgrade harness is wired wrong at the relay. The harness has 4 wires going into the relay, two yellow and a gray and black wire. The gray wire goes to relay pin #86 and the black goes to #85. Both yellows go to pins #87. The black and gray wires are going to the wrong relay pins and should be switched, i.e. black goes to #86 and gray to #85. You have to remove the female pin connectors from the housing. I switched them and it seems to be working fine. I have not ridden the bike as it is raining. But at idle it started at 13.5V and went up to 14.3V in less than a minute. It is too early to tell for sure. I will keep you posted. |

Bad time of year to be selling... the only people out buying are people looking for a screaming deal. It's starting to get a bit chilly out! |

Yeah I know its a bad time to sell... I thought I would give it a try on consignment - plus it frees up some space in my garage. I'm not desperate to sell. Although its probably not considered a screamin' (give it away) kind of a deal, it is a fair price. I too am looking for those desperate kinds of deals... The mornings are a bit chilly and that is why I have to point out (again) the bike has HEATED GRIPS!! It will be for sale until it sells... |

Adam, thanks for the info. I'm trying to scrape up all the info I can including links to discussions for the lawyer to prove that the '08 stator and rotor is the only real fix for the '09 stator problems. On a side note, took the S2 up 14 to santa fe and back today. It's. been 2 yrs since it was registered. Little chilly out, miss those heated grips on my other bikes. :-p |

I am still having problems with my DDM tuning HID kit, it turns off for no apparent reason, it is a 55w H4 bulb kit, I have double checked the wiring and connections and relocated the ballast and control box without success, has anyone installed one of these on an older tuber? I have a 2000 S3. The charging system is good, new battery. I hate to dump the HID as the bright lights are great but I need something that I can depend on. |

How old are they? The bulbs do get old eventually and require higher voltages as they get hot. The ballast eventually can't keep the arc going, they cool off, the pressure drops, the voltage requirements drop, and they'll relight. If it's more than a few years old, I'd suggest trying a new bulb in it first. |

Nope, brand new system just installed about 3 weeks ago. Maybe the 55w I ordered is pulling to much power, but they stayed on all the way to work today, about 25min/15miles. Very strange. |

Hey guys, I've been "trained" on a new piece of equipment at work that cuts our Tempurpedic foam into shapes for pillows, etc. Did some experimenting the other night and came up with this.
Kinda neat. If anyone wants one, they are free to good homes. Just let me know how many you want, I have about 50 of them. They would make good stocking stuffers! |
