I have just over 2300 miles on my XB12. If I power shift from 3rd to 4th which I have had to do from time to time due to traffic it will "false shift" into 4th. Pull in the clutch roll off the gas, lever up and feel it catch 4th, let out the clutch roll on the gas and BAM it drops back into 3rd. Dealer told me this would go away after about 1500 miles on the clock but it still does it. Looking at a Zippers catalog it says there that it is common and to switch to back cut gears. Anyone else have this problem? |

get it fixed while it is still under warr.... if it comes out of gear, it has warn dogs. |

Does this problem happen before the transmission gets hot? Or does it occur after you've been on the road for a while? What kind of fluid do you have in the primary/tranny? |

what exactly is your version of a "power shift" ? tranny is tough to service on these bikes, you would sure hope you could get a warranty repair on this one. good luck, dean |

The two dealerships I have discussed the problem with have said "its normal when under hard power to do that, lay off the throttle a little longer when shifting 3rd to 4th" The first dealer was the one who did the rockerbox gasket repair. The service manager there said it should go away after 1500 miles since it is still getting broke in. As to what my version of a power shift. As I wrote above, you grab some clutch to unload the trans and roll off the throttle, as you let the clutch back out fast your rolling the throttle back on. Usually in the upper rev range as all this happens(3000 to 4000). It isn't a clutchless shift since you can't get the lever to move when the trans is loaded. But it is pretty damn close. I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen to them. Running H-D sporttrans fluid and yes it happens when hot, as far as the few times I have had to shift that way was after being onthe road long enough to be up to temp. Yeah, I've had some shifting problems after the motor gets hot. Today, in temp's in the 40's, I had no problems with shifting. But then again, the rear fan never came on during or after the ride. It will be good to hear if Mobil-1 helps reduce or eliminate shifting glitches. |

I've used Mobil 1 ever since 3000 miles and I've had no shift problems. Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 Over 12,000 miles now... |

Ditto. Changed over to the same synth Glitch uses at about 4500 miles. Definite improvement. I've got 15K now. Warning, though, that stuff is quite possibly the ripest smell when hot that I've ever encountered! |

I've always prescribed to the notion that on the HD v-twins you need a good firm toe to shift properly. Seriously if I wear something other than my normal riding gear I will experience the same thing from time to time. But if I bang it into gear instead of trying to just slip it in gear then she shifts fine. One other thing I noticed on the XB's is that damn tiny shift lever. Whats up with the microscopic peg? I guess if you have size 7-8 shoes its no biggie but with my 13's I kept hitting the bottom side of the primary instead of the toe piece. Does anyone make a toe piece thats a bit longer? |

hello ! My mechanic tells me that since it's my first service he wont put in the Amsoil cause my engine so new is that right ? I have 1200 miles on a XB12R 06 |
