One thing you haven't heard from any articles is about the helmet coming off. Other articles have said though that Sic had to wear a helmet that was one size larger so that his hair would fit. It makes you wonder if that had any thing to do with the helmet coming off, but I'm sure the 200+ mph impact dident help. It just sucks he's gone because he was the most fun rider to watch this year and had many good years on the track headed his way. |

very upsetting video, i know it's racing, but what horror. one of the links showed a still photo from the opposite angle, it looks like rossi hit him right at the base of the helmet. pretty sure the trauma he suffered from an impact like that would have compromised the security of his helmet. |

"It just sucks he's gone because he was the most fun rider to watch this year and had many good years on the track headed his way." Absolutely... I knew it was just a matter of time before we'd see him grab a win, he seemed to really put it all on the line...so sad. |

It is a tragedy, RIP to Marco, prayers to his family. I'm sure it is difficult for Val and Colin too. Did anyone else notice in the video that there is a a black patch coming from Marco's bike before he goes down? I wonder if he locked up the brakes or maybe the engine seized, or chain or something? |

I noticed it, and replayed the video many times to try to understand exactly what I was seeing. Although the first thing I saw was the trail of rubber, it definitely seemed to intensify AFTER he went into the inside ripple strip. After that, of course, he lost the front and slid to the outside, clearly no longer in control. The part I don't completely understand, though, is how/why he crossed back to the inside after he left the video frame. Inertia ("unless acted upon by an outside force") took him in a straight line outside. But what was the "outside force" that brought him back inside (and into the path of oncoming traffic)? My only guess is that maybe he tried to regain control and gained just enough traction to change direction. A true tragedy. RIP. |
